Hi everyone just been catching up on threads and wondered if anyone has had a similar problem. Everything with my recovery is going really well i am almost 4 weeks post op however last saturday i developed a swelling on the inside of my operated leg just above the knee which was very tender to touch. I had done a lot of walking that day and put it down to overdoing it however by wednesday morning the lump was much bigger and was hot and red and spreading up my leg, i had to take pain meds (which i had stopped a few days before) and i still could not do my physio properly so i went to the doctor who sent me to A&E. They did a blood test and told me it was very likely a blood clot as my white cell count was normal so it was not an infection they gave me a blood thinning injection and told me to go back the following morning for a scan, which i did and thankfully the clot is in the superficial veins and not a DVT. They told me to take diclofenac so that i could continue with my PT. I forgot to tell them i was taking aspirin i will check with my GP on monday that its ok to continue taking both. The diclofenac takes away the soreness so i can do the PT but the swelling has not gone down yet and i was wondering if anyone had experienced similar symptoms and how long before they settled down.

Thanks Tracey

Wow, Tracey, that must have been scary. Are you allowed to ice the swelling? Thank goodness you didn't have a DVT, but I hope you're feeling better soon.

Sounds like you have a superficial phlebitis there. Is painful/sore but will go away in time.

You can't take diclofenac and aspirin at the same time - they're both NSAIDS.
