Hi,

I had microfracture surgery on the 27th November on my right knee for 2 lesions on the inside of my knee. I was non weight bearing for 6 weeks then as much weight bearing as I could manage with no limitations.
I am now having physio and surgeon doesn't want to see me again until April. I am still off work as I have a physical job that doesn't allow me to elevate and rest when I need.
I hope to go back to work in another 4 weeks.
I have quite a good ROM but knee sometimes feels quite heavy as if I have a weight inside and I can't walk too far at the moment.
My question is will I ever be able to kneel again fully ??

Hello @Shazza1970 - and :welome:

I don't think we can tell you whether or not you'll be able to kneel again. That's probably a question you need to ask your surgeon.
Does your work involve kneeling?

I know that recovery can take a long time, but you have plenty of time for improvement.

I'm going to leave you our recovery guidelines for a knee replacement. Although that's not what you had, many of the articles will also be relevant for you:

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. Try to follow this

6. Access to these pages on the website

I've had 3 Microfractures total between each knee. I was always able to knee afterwards.

Thanks for your responses.I think i maybe expecting too much too soon. I asked bout the kneeling as i tried yesterday but the pain was bad and back of knee felt like it would lock.
I guess recovery is long

Each of my microfracture were easily 3 month recoveries. I tend to swell a lot anyway, and I definitely rebound swell when I go back to strength training too quickly. The 4-6 wks of non weightbearing does a number on your quads and hamstrings too. I'm lucky that I've had 11 knee surgeries to compare to.. If you can call that lucky. Regardless, I can now say that a simple arthroscopy is a 5-6 recovery for me personally, a microfracture with Biocartilage added aas 3-4 months, and my TKR has been a super long recovery. Again, I have 4severe rebound swelling issue that has haunted me since my first knee operation 22 yrs ago when I was a super fit, active 25 year old.

I have been off work now for 11 weeks and really want to go back. Because i have a very physical job which involves kneeling and lifting my employer wants me to take another 4 weeks off.

That will be 15 weeks in total, this just feels so long and slow
