Meds and adult beverage question

I know you are not supposed to have 'adult beverages' when you are taking meds (I am taking hydrocodone). But... several teachers are coming to kidnap me tomorrow for a girls night out (going to dinner this time). So.... if I want to have an adult beverage, how long after taking my last dose is safe??? Anyone know? Don't want to pass out on the table :hehe: That would be bad.
 
My guess would be to try to skip your dose for the day...or at least make your last dose early in the morning. Just remember, the beverage will hit you faster than in the past. I am sure that's probably not a good medical answer, but that's what I would do.
 
Beach I would say at least 6 hours after your last dose. As cotton said, you may get hit harder by the drink so stick with something light like a beer or a glass of wine. Sorry, no shots or Long Island iced teas!
 
Humm then be careful when you take a pill after you drink....hum im not sure but have fun tomorrow........)
 
Best bet is not to drink. But if you must only have a beer or wine and only one. Club Soda would be good. Best not take your meds several hours before or after the drink.

I gave myself 5 hrs. after my last meds when we go out. That way I can have a drink with dinner. And you said the girls are going to come and get you ,, does that mean they will also get you home after????
 
Yes, I have a designated driver! Still haven't driven since surgery - my car is way too low to get in and out of yet, plus I'm still taking the meds. Thank goodness my oldest is home for awhile, I have my own personal driver (plus she cooked dinner tonight!)
So, the plan is to not take any meds after noon, then have just 1 drink. Well, that's the plan! :D

I would skip the morning pill also and have atleast two,,lol

Hey beach,,becareful but you will be fine. I had a few coctails when I was on pain meds,,and all it did was make me feel better sooner. :whis:

Matter of fact there is days I wish I had some pain pills to cut down on the bar tab,,,just joking,,lol,,,:hehe:

Beach, I would sure advise you to skip the drinks for now. Have a "virgin" whatever you usually drink (unless it's shots....virgin shots just don't work :hehe:). I'm sure you could get away with a drink if you didn't take pills, but my concern is not while you're out, but after.

Not only do you need to wait for a while BEFORE you take the drink, but you can't take pain meds for hours after you return back home. You know Jo's pain chart.....it could be VERY uncomfortable for you because alcohol will NOT take care of the pain.

These guys will understand. Tell them you had the choice between drinks and really good drugs and you chose the drugs for now! You can still have fun....
 
I have a different answer. The half-life of hydrocodonone is 3.8 hours, so it basically clears out pretty well in 8 hours. The other issue is that the acetaminophen which is included in the hydrocodonone is really hard on your liver if you mix it with alcohol. So I would go lightly on either the meds or the alcohol.
 
I agree! I don't think alcohol is the best thing to be drinking while on those kinds of meds! :doh:
 
I agree with NOT drinking any alcohol. It just can't be worth maybe getting sick. And do you really want to go without your pain meds for that long? You aren't that far out from surgery. You would have to wait hours before the drink, and then hours after the drink.

Your friends will understand, and you just don't want to risk having some kind of bad reaction. Not worth the gamble.

Beach I am glad you had a fun evening and everything worked out well. But I still have to wonder if you would not have had a couple,,things maybe been better??? NOT???

We were talking about breaking a little bread,drinking a little wine,,all as in being very holy.

Not driving,,,,,Judles you on them good drugs yet??,,lol
