There are a lot of medicines being mentioned from vrs. Countries. I have not a clue what they are and what the equivalent would be in the US.

Jo, Jamie could you list the ones you have taken and what it would be in US.

I would like to see a list from others also.

Would like to know how well they worked and what might be some of the common side effects.

I am allergic to most meds and everything else so this would be helpful for me

Thanks

Give me a while - maybe knock something together tomorrow, ok?

Just to say what I personally took....hydrocodone for 3 weeks then Darvoset for 3 more weeks. They both worked for me, but after the three weeks with each, I had trouble tolerating them. That was why I switched midway through the period of needing major pain meds. At the end of the 6 weeks, I stopped all at once (like they tell you NOT to do) and went to Aleve. I took Aleve off and on for probably 6 months and still take it now and then when something hurts.

I was prescribed Dilaudid and Vistaril post op. I am allergic to percocet, thus can not take Oxycodone. The dilaudid worked very well with the Visteril for me. They are both very old drugs and doctors today do not like to prescribe them due to the fact they are addictive and are on the prescription drug list for druggies..... My PCP had me have an appt every 30 days to get my refills. I got it refilled 3 times. I took them for about 3 months. The time I needed them the most as I got further away from the surgery date was when low pressure air (rain & snow storms) were in the area. I still have some left for the "in case of emergency"....
The dosage started out as 2 pills each and decreased to a 1/2 pill of the dilaudid and the occasional visteril. My PCP OK'd me substituting my evening glass or 2 of wine (which I enjoy immensely at the end of the day) for one of my pain pills.
I currently take an Aleve in the AM and PM daily. Sometimes if I over do, or a low pressure front comes through, I take 2 Arthritis Strength Tylenol.....
Works for me. So much better than not being able to walk around the block, stand for any amount of time, not be able to ski, hike, garden, and more. Life is good!
Best,

Hey! Just realised you succeeded in making your first thread! Congratulations!

I got to say i have been on pain meds for almost 3 years now, I do have blood tests done once a month to check that my liver is ok. I started out with Hydrocodone then with the replacement i was on Oxycodone,Oxycontin both at the same time The reason for that I had the blood clot and the neuropathic pain and fibromalgia. After a month i was put on Norco . I am now on 10/325mg Norco along with the 50mg Fentanyl Patches and I am still in pain! When i saw my pain management doctor last week i did asked what kind of pain meds is going to take care of the pain when i have this revision done, She said dont worry she will take care of that!

What is Norco and Naproxen have not heard of them

I am allergic to codeine and darvocet and porcecet.

I was taking dilaudid now they put me on tramadol/apap a substitute for Ultracet

The weather is really bothering me. I do take pain med every 4 hrs when it is bad

Pat.....does the weather bother your knee or other parts?

Naproxen is like Aleve.

Norco is a prescription med that contains Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen, so it doesn't sound like it would work for you.

Sorry to hear you are hurting. Be sure you are icing and elevating as well as taking something for the pain.

I didn't know Norco has Acetaminophen in it. Humm Thanks Jamie! No it wouldn't work for you loggon, you allergic to that I think you said. There are alot of medicines out there, they should be able to find something ,I would think. ?

Kim, since I've been working on the forum I have learned how many meds are blends that contain acetaminophin. It's a little scary because I think most people don't realize that and might take over-the-counter acetaminophin along with the prescription pain med thinking it's no big deal. And it can be.....there is the potential for liver damage and one needs to be a little careful when mixing things....even "safe" over-the-counter meds.
