THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

What a fabby gift ! Enjoy your evening young'n :loveshwr:

@ahipgma be careful with the housework! I've been told not to touch or Hoover yet! ( we do have wooden floors mainly so it generally needs a mopping ) Luckily my ever patient family are doing the general stuff - I'll leave the " deep clean" till a few days before my next op!
The rain today has been awful - grey drizzly monotonous! I'm in a bit of a Narky mood too! Narky =grumpy and irritable.. My groin is hurting and I have nerve Pain down my leg - I'm hiding in my nest this evening and keeping out of everyone's way !' This too shall pass ' is one of my mantras so I know it won't last - isn't it funny how mood can change in a few short hours?!
Anyway @ChrissyW your picture made me chuckle - also the visual image of a flat bottomed Masai warrior- ( I'm more like a fat bottomed girl as described by Queen in the 80's )!!
I hope you enjoy a wonderful meal and scrumptious pudding with your thoughtful caring husband .
Xx

The rain is making me narky...add a little thigh nerve pain and I’m happier alone!
Sunshine soon hopefully then life will look better.
Can you get someone in to do a deep clean? I got cleaners in last week and next so that I’m not beating myself up for not being able to do it. Or asking hubby to take on more responsibility

@Yogigirl - sunshine would help - I do like a walk outside but today we'd need a canoe!! I suppose I Could get someone in to clean - I have before it's just a case of finding someone I can trust to do a good job I suppose. Wouldn't mind if they could cut my toenails at the same time !!! I've just had a pamper shower and a magnum ice cream ( not at the same time) so I'm still in my nest but feeling a little less Narky now - thanks for popping by :)

@Mayhip8 a magnum always helps. Look into a mobile podiatrist maybe? And maybe ask on your local Facebook site or neighbours to recommend someone for a short term cleaner
This is about healing and to do that it helps if we take away some of the stresses

:wave:Good morning @Mayhip8 . I like the fact you treated yourself to a magnum, which one? My favourite is either the White chocolate one or the one with the nutty outside though I'm more of a cornetto fan although I do love the maxi on ice cream sandwiches, I remember eating these many years ago as a teenager in so not only do they taste good they bring back fond memories ( and yes, some do include rara skirts!)
Hope you slept reasonably well. I have to say, since starting the herbal nytol have seen some benefits with longer sleeping spells between the loo visits and room laps (only 2 of each last night) though actually getting to sleep to start is really hard and does involve some clock watching. Oh ladies I await the joys of getting in to bed and then suddenly being woken by the alarm having slept completely and wondering where the night went. Nowadays I certainly know where the night goes! @Mayhip8 the joys of a lovely warm shower too! Wasn't it cold again so a warming shower would have been a nice relaxing treat. In respect of toe nails I wonder if our helping hand grabber can hold nail varnish? Actually maybe that could be someone's dragons den moment because there are a number of things us glamorous ladies could do with during this recovery period, especially ehere getting to our feet is concerned. So @Mayhip8 i expect you are awake and looking out at thus glorious rain like me whereas I expect when sister @ahipgma awakens the day will be sunnier that side of the pond as they say.
Catch you ladies later with updates of your day xx:friends:

Good morning @ChrissyW
I'm liking the sound of your herbal nytol - and am pleased it's working for you . Alas my night was pants! I fell asleep ok - which is unusual for me - I'm still trying diazepam at night time to stop the spasms and am weaning myself off codeine so I'm generally woozy . But oh! the pain last night in my Unoperated hip! I literally woke up shouting and crying out in pain when I fell asleep, each time after habitual loo visit -( never mind spending a penny I've spent thousands over the past five weeks )
My poor hubby :nah:
However today's another day - which started at 05.45 with me mopping all the floors downstairs , then sitting by the window watching the rain pitter splatter down the windows as I drank my tea.
Can't believe it's half way through June!
I like all magnums - have you tried the salted caramel one? Mmmmm
What's funny is all of this food talk and me!!! I don't usually have a sweet tooth ! I too could live off veg and fruit and healthy stuff -and usually do ! - I'm blaming this on comfort food craving post op!
Ah well... This too shall pass - despite the codiene :yikes::snork:
Loving these emojis!
I had a red and white striped Rah rah skirt and a blue chambray type one- my mum made them for me and I wore them the the bitter end. I probably danced to Rod Stewart and The human league . This was post 'circle skirt' when I danced to Bill Hayley and other 50's Rock and roll icons- I can't wait to be hip mended and dance again.

I wonder if I put sand paper down on the floor I could 'sand file' my toenails and have a pedicure - then try to use the grabber to do reflexology from a safe angle? ... Hmm you got me thinking there ..:heehee:

In the meantime I'm nest bound and planning on phoning a radio station to try to enter a competition this morning! Ah well may as well make the most of this time - at least I'm not as Narky as yesterday !
So my lovely I'll Bob by later to catch up
I hope @ahipgma had a decent rest too and I look forward to hearing from you later
May your day be filled with comfort and laughter with a huge smattering of love :loveshwr::flwrysmile:

A late good morning!
woke up to singing birds and sunshine but chilly! Many times our summers here are so hot and humid, this is welcome!
Your birthday including the pub grub sounded lovely @ChrissyW. Is a magnum ice cream? I don't think we have them here we have plenty of other ice cream vices here like Ben and Jerry's.
@Mayhip8 I'm so sorry for your unoperated leg!!! Both my legs seemed to act up more in bed maybe the arthritic parts grate together more. My new hip is coming along, always the better after a little walk and I can deal with stiffness
Do you think its because of weaning off the codeine? Theres not much help for the pain now med-wise.
I had a pedicure with no repercussions, infection . Etc, weeks ago. It was such a relief because with 2 hips needing done and precautions my toenails undone would be like those fingernails people grow for the Guiness Book of World Records. As a nurse and one who fears infection I still figured as long as they dont pierce any skin I'm ok.
Maybe one of your daughters or sisters could do it?
You will want to wear open toed glitzy sandals for our Riviera trip this weekend!
I looked at all the clothes Grace Kelly wore and just l loved them! Will we go to a casino?
If we win big there we can all retire and get some cabana boys to do our toenails.
Catch you later!

@ahipgma love your idea. Casino, cocktails and cabana boys to wait on us hand and foot (and give you both pedicures. I on the other hand can't think of anything worse than someone touching my feet, it makes me cringe just to think about it and I have the same phobia about touching other people's feet. I probably just don't like feet)
@Mayhip8 youll have to let me know whether the sand paper idea is a goer! What colour nails would you go for? Your codeine comment also made me chuckle. Having been on codeine for nearly 5 years, with an increased dosage for the last 8 months all I kept saying to them in the hospital was that I just wanted to be off codeine. Why create something that takes pain away but doesn't let anything else pass through its power! I too am reducing my dosage of stronger medication (tramadol) and now only take it in the afternoon and an evening (down to a total of just 2 of those pesky little things a day
Unsurprisingly a quiet day here and absolutely nothing exciting so far. I did forget to mention I got a cake from hubby yesterday, not my favourite (one of the caterpillar cakes) but it's a cake so I'm excited by the fact there will be cake this evening and I'll be able to have cake for the next couple of days! (How many times can you say cake in one sentence)
Feeling like it may be nap time, not sure if I'm actually tired, bored or whether it's this terrible TV I've been reduced to watching .
@ahipgma you are right, magnums are ice creams encased in chocolate and they have now started adding fancy bits in with the ice cream too. I love ice cream but @Mayhip8 ive not tried the salted caramel magnum, I do have some salted caramel cornetto style cornets and they are lovely. Have you tried those new nuii ice creams that are advertised? They too look good. Oh dear we are here again, talking food and guess what? I want to nibble!:spin:

Of course @ahipgma the open toe glitzy sandals are just the thing to motivate me to get my dancing toes buffered and polished! I think we should definitely go to a casino- I've never been to one so someone will have to show me how to win big ! I've just had to Google "Cabana boy'! Yes! Every girl should have one!
I have vivid memories of seeing pictures of men and women with those record breaker long fingernails- ewwwwwwwwwwww however did they wipe their bottoms?!!! Ewwwwwww each to their own and such but ....talk of infection risk...

It's damp and cold here and according to science/old wives tales/hearsay/ and actual fact Arthritis pain worsens as " you feel the damp in your bones" something to do with raised barometric pressure and inflammation so we don't stand a bloomin chance here in the rainy area of UK!
No wonder a warm shower followed by ice cream is to be looked forward to
A magnum here is a yummy proper chocolate covered ice cream on a stick. The chocolate cracks and falls into ones cleavage if your not quick enough. It can be white or milk or almond chunks of chocolate and the ice cream is creamy and lush ( lush= delicious/yummy/decadent/luxurious...) They are Full of protein and vitamins and if you eat it whilst recovering from a hip replacement it has zero calories :loll:
I shall bring some in an ice box- along with Percy pigs to our Riviera retreat
It's Tea o'clock here now so,I'm gong to put the kettle on and have a brew.whilst I peruse dresses to wear in the style of Grace herself :dancy:
One more day before your appt isn't it? Fingers crossed for a date for your op xxxxxx

Yep, tomorrow at 8am, @Mayhip8! So at your about 1pm I'll be there.
Today I have to go back to my hairdresser as yesterday I went to have a cut and color ( we are early grayers in my family and my hair is white as snow under my dye) and he got the color done and his electricity went off and no lights!
So I never got my hair trim done, so today I go back to finish.
I have had my hair cut by this man for about 22 years. Our kids were little and now we are both grandparents exchanging proud grandparent pics on our phones.
We have gorgeous sunny weather again here wish I could send some across to you both @ChrissyW to lift the spirits!
This weekend is our Fathers Day celebration so I have to get to the greeting card store to get my hub a card to thank him for being the great Dad he is.
Ladies, Grace Kelly was one of our most beautiful stars here in her day God rest her, and the gowns she wore in that movie were by Edith Head so so
gorgeous I'm going to check out some YouTube footage to get inspired.
Also I remember the picnic scene with
Cary Grant where they were parked on some road overlooking the sea and she was unpacking the chicken and provocatively asked him "breast or leg?"
I guess being truthful I'd have to say "breast , leg, replaced hip, or arthritic hip?"
I dont know talking about a burst bubble
So glad I have you both to laugh with.:dubious:
We'll take the Riviera by storm anyway!

Good evening @Mayhip8 and @ahipgma . Been looking through my wardrobe for our trip to the Riviera and I'm sure I might be able to find at least one sassy little number to wiggle in. @ahipgma my family are also early greyers so I gave up and went blonde 5 years ago and I've never looked back, wish I'd done it sooner. I have an appointment on Saturday morning and have warned her I may need to get up and wander about a bit. I'm hoping I can sit comfortably in her chairs but I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair. Like you say once you find a good hairdresser don't let em go. @Mayhip8 earlier you admitted to having been in the rara brigade. The 80s definetly dud us no favours! I remember also going through a Madonna esque stage with lace gloves, ribbons and thinking I looked amazing. I definetly will not be bringing the past fashionista me with us to the riviera as I believe I have more class now! I suppose ladies with our artificial hips we may as well all get the breasts while we are at it! I've just had some of my birthday cake and it was nice and now I'm watching bake off the professionals where they are making more cakes. I'm beginning to worry about my obsession with cake and need to take care for unnecessary sugar rushes :spin:I never had it until now but at least there is a bonus in not being able to get out of the house on my own, I can't go buying more cake or I would be spinning on my head!
Well ladies, hopefully we will all gets plenty of restful beauty sleep tonight, in preparation for the glamour of the riviera. @Mayhip8 if you 2 have professionally done toenails I do hope you will excuse mine, though they don't look claw like and the varnish hasn't chipped at all yet. I have redone my own fingernails and I won't let our glamorous group down .
Sleep well my lovelies:roseshwr:

Here I am keeping the wee small hours company.
It's dark . It's raining outside . It's quiet apart from the patter of rain on canvas of the patio umbrella which makes me feel like I'm camping ! Rain on canvas .
I had such a frustratingly boring day yesterday . Lots of minor boring things to do. I was restless and couldn't settle. I was up and about sometimes with crutches one or two sometimes without any. I was in discomfort and am weaning off codeine so probably didn't take much paracetamol either. By the Late evening I Was grumpy and tired out so in my wisdom I thought I'd try and walk it off!I did a long walk with two crutches sometimes only using one. I came home and had a long shower and settled in my nest to watch a TV program and within an hour so much pain!!! It's taken me four hours and maximum analgesia to get rid of it! Oh how very frustrating. IM so tired..
So I'm now reading your threads ladies... I can't help but laugh at the electricity going off in your hairdressers @ahipgma - it's a good job you weren't in a worse predicament! I usually colour my own hair with Henna as I'm sensitive to chemicals and perfumes - I'd love to be pampered in a hair salon ( with lights) I'm naturally brunette but had blonde children!! My hairdresser is on maternity leave so I'm in the process of finding another temporarily- or I might take to wearing a hat -wide brimmed and floppy might be A La Riviera mode?
I must also get a Father's Day card and gift for my hubby as he's been patience personified these past few weeks.i might buy him cake.? .. No... We usually don't buy each other gifts but go away for weekend breaks with the children - we won't be able to do that that just yet so I might treat him to a picnic in a few weeks ... :heehee::heehee::loll:
Well ladies with some luck I'll drift off shortly and I hope you are gently snoozing too.
Today's another day and I Wonder what it will bring?
For now though twinkly stars and something about the sandman that I can't recall
Nos Dda as we say in Welsh xxx

I just so happened to see my alert but dont know if you'll see this till later, my friend.
I'm sorry you're in pain. We two have an odd situation going on that probably most other folks dont have-- 2 bad hips that are being staged apart. I went for a walk tonight too and darned if my shiny new hip behaved and that #2 started to ache.
That was one of the reasons I went for the surgery. As I'm sure you did back in the day, as i used to, speed around whatever unit i was working on at the hospital with nary a pain and i thought at 62 i can't only walk 1/2 mile then start to hurt. I only wish you could take NSAIDS, they really help me.
But we have hope, because this bad hip will get fixed too and we'll have a new lease on life--- it's just hard to wait.
My haircut turned out Ok, I've learned not to talk about inflammatory subjects or he gets all excited and cuts too much off
Politics and the situation in the Catholic Church are two biggies (we're both cradle Catholics) but it went ok and my hair is my usual dark brown again and the white roots are bye bye for now.
I'm sitting up at 11pm just relaxing and doing a crossword puzzle.
Before you know we'll be strolling on the Riviera taking short do-able walks and having tall cool drinks delivered by cabana boys with washboard abs!
Meanwhile I hope the sandman visits, dear @Mayhip8.
Love and hugs and rest:sleeep:

Good morning my lovelies. I'm sat watching the Waltons while I check in with your updates. I'm so sorry @Mayhip8 that you struggled so much last night and I do hope you did eventually get a little shut eye. I can't begin to imagine how both you and @ahipgma are feeling, it must be strange, a mixture of good and bad where you know what will be at the same time as what was (if that makes sense). Did both hips cause problems from the same point and how long ago did you start having problems? I was diagnosed with a congenital deformity in the right hip when I was 26 and have been on medication since then just waiting until I couldn't go any further ( the surgeon told me then it needed replacing but as I was young to see if I could avoid it until I couldn't wait any more) and by last summer I couldn't so here I am. I know the pain I experienced and my heart goes out to you both in your current position. In respect of sleep the herbal nytols have really helped me because I've now taken them for 5 nights and there has definetly been an improvement with it being easier to get to sleep and in the periods of sleep it has been better quality sleep and even though it isn't a full, sound 8 hrs the last 2 nights have totalled about 5and a half hrs of calm sleep. The only downside of the tablets is that they smell terrible! They contain hop strobile, valerian root ( sounds very game of thrones) and Passion flower herb and I'm glad I found them as I wanted to avoid any chemical based sleeping tablets.
Well we shall catch up later but I'm sending virtual hugs to you both. I shall go plan what is needed fir the riviera visit. I'm not sure about a hat, I've always been told I don't have a hat head but possibly I could pop on a beautifully tied headscarf with a pair of oversized glasses and I'd look glamorous all the same. Shall we get a chauffeur in a vintage convertible to drive us around the coastal roads and spend a couple of hours lounging on a yacht while we are out there? Earlier it was mentioned about lack of casino experience, I have absolutely none myself but I'm sure every virtual visit comes with everything we could wish for so its good fortune and obviously Lady Luck all the way! Catch you both later to see how you are feeling and @Mayhip8 no extended walks or over exerting yourself today or I shall have to put you on the naughty list. In fact your punishment is 100lines of I will not do too much today!
Hugs :friends::console2:

I will not do too much today
I will not do too much today
I will not do too much today
I will not..... Wait!!!!
@ChrissyW
I feel like the opening credits to The Simpsons!!!....
Ladies Thankyou - I slept 4 hours.
I just woke - in pain- tripped to the 'in house Spa '
Spoke to the bed partner
(Who has now risen and will bring me tea and fresh water)
Then I ..
Took pain relief
Stripped the bed
Rearranged the flowers
Wiped the surfaces down
Hugged the beautiful children
Returned to (stripped)'bed snuggled in soft fleecy blankets
Then Mr husband came to tell me just exactly how's he's arranged the washing in the machine because I don't do it right..(oh my!)...our laundry is in the cellar and I can't get to it carry the stuff down
And we had a niggle ( it's not the best time to tell me how to wash sheets-really!) I've done my own washing since I was 12, I Was a nanny in a boarding school and did boarders and charges washing-I've been a parent for 32 years and a few of those couldn't afford a washing machine and did it by hand- a nurse for 35 years and stripped and made goodness knows how many beds - a carer nearly all my life and dealt with all sorts of hygiene/ linen /water/ soap and agitation issues .....
Ahem
Sorry
Looks like I just vented there
I should learn to patronisingly pat him on the back and say "yes dear" how clever you are! My hero!...
But I let myself get annoyed ..
All will be well -He's doing a grand job and I'm witchety and snickerty and feel Meh!
Alas my day can only get better as I plan my wardrobe and arrange a carrier for my cases for my escape with my hipster sisters .
I shall return in a darn site better mood as I'm off to snooze these drugs away...
I will not do too much today
I will not do too much today
PS Only just worked out how to set an alert!
Hugs :alarm::sleep::friends:

@Mayhip8 and breathe! If the washing and cleaning end up a little below standard what's the worse that can happen! I actually sound like your opposite (both of you really) in my lack of enthusiasm for domestic chores. I'm very much of if they get done they get done and if the washing isn't perfect it can get done again! Probably comes from having had a mother who was unbelievably obsessed with tidiness and I was always in trouble for not doing it right even if I thought I'd tidied up so now I'm really chilled with it! Anyway ladies the highlight of my day was a parcel arrived then I ended up being really disappointed because the trousers I really wanted were no longer in stock and they will be refunding the cost and the only thing that did come was a t shirt I didn't really need but only got because I was ordering the trousers! They would have looked so lovely in the Riviera, pale pink, summery and really pretty but it's not to be! I'm also trying to decide what to buy my husband for his birthday in July. It's always hard with him because he doesn't have hobbies, if I buy clothes he doesn't like them and I don't think there is space for another watch ( my go to gift!) any ideas will be welcome.
@ahipgma you should be just about to see your OS if I've worked it out correctly so good luck and let's see what he has to say. Do let us know. @Mayhip8 are you feeling a bit better, what you up to? I have found a patronising response often works well with other halves, we are both fans of 'yes dear' as a response and I have also found biting my tongue an excellent exercise!:skep:
Feeling stir crazy to be honest. This weather is really annoying. We could be getting out, benefitting from all that vitamin d in the sunshine rather than huddled up at home avoiding the cold. I know I said a couple of weeks ago I love Scandinavia, which I do, but the cold feels better when you can add woolly tights or jeans, chunky jumpers and boots and unfortunately I'm still bare foot or flat slip on pumps when out of the house, wearing loose fitting yoga style joggers or sweat pants and really uncoordinated jumpers to try keep warm. Part of me is thinking i'd prefer a rara skirt (hmm maybe not!)
I shall stop wittering now ladies and see what I can do to entertain myself because even the cat has curled herself in to a ball and gone to sleep :mooncat: perhaps I will start thinking about what to have for lunch!

@ChrissyW a knitted waterproof Rara skirt!!
You cheered me up
Thankyou
I guess I am a tad uptight - probably protecting my 'role' and my hubby just sees it as information giving- anyway we're OK . He's gone off to a job now and the world is settled once again .
My daughter Bobbed by earlier - she's just had a steroid injection in her arm so can't do my feet- sandpaper it is then!
I'm having a nesting day and taking pain relief - my left groin and hip feel swollen today - probably inflammation from my epic treck yesterday
I just spoke to my boss - we planned a chat last week- and in reality I'm off shifts until I have follow up at the end of June. Then I'll do phased return on an ad hoc basis at home rather than my contracted shifts- all will be well and happen in time.
So! I'm going to make a few phone calls and catch up with buddies.
Apparently we shall see sunshine at the weekend!
Maybe you could find alternative suppliers to the trousers to go with your T-shirt?
I mooch about in midi skirts and t-shirts whist recouperating with the odd fleece hoody for an outside walk- I defiantly need to glam up for the casino!
Hope you have a yummy lunch and the cat enjoys her snooze!!! :meow:

Good afternoon my dears!
Glad to hear you got some sleep @Mayhip8! I know what you mean about that unoperated leg pain, it keeps you surfacing at night so you never get deep refreshing sleep.
My mom is a dear lady but a clean freak
So I went and married someone who shares her birthday and her neatness
(Both mom and hub b day is Sept 18).
I on the other hand am only a clean freak about 2 rooms
My bathroom and my kitchen.
So my hub does all the vacuuming and dusting and I do my 2 important rooms and we split the laundry
But it sounds to me that we all have good spouses who have been going the distance relationship wise and they are a true blessing dust and dirt not withstanding.
The older I get the less inclined I am to argue over stuff because my time on this earth is limited and my hub knows this.
He actually vacuums to expend nervous energy and anxiety so the fact that I have any nap left on my carpet is amazing. Also I no longer buy rugs with fringe
Because it gets sucked up and destroyed.
Well as you know today was my 6 week check with my OS.
My next hip is August 21st!!!
He says my leg length is the same, he's
Pleased with my progress I've been given the green light for sleeping any old way, and for ♡ahem♡ sex.
Now ladies I am still the same creaky senior citizen that I was when I went for the appointment, afraid about my new hip and lousy range of motion in my bad hip so hmmm, we shall see.
Nothing for it but to hop a plane for our Riviera weekend, @ChrissyW I have a head the size of a coconut very small so hats look bad, bad on me, I'm sure you will shine in one, and @Mayhip8 beautiful views, fresh sea air will lull you to sleep at days end I'm sure!!!!
Going to try to get as many trips on before I'm flat on my back on oxy again!:elevate:
