THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

Hi ladies
Can't believe the weekend is here already.
Hub and I set up the house for Ariana's and Anne's (granddaughter and daughter) visit ,got guest towels out spare bedroom ready, also went to the secondhand toy store and got some new picture books and a Mr. Potato head
Toy --have you seen those? Ari can point to all her body parts, so I thought she would enjoy putting Mr Potato Head together.
Then of course off to join you both for tea before our trip.
You know, I think it is not as though we have dont any have more ups and downs with recovery, it's that we're learning to take them in stride.
Thank goodness because I'm blowing the dust off the heels I haven't worn since my daughters wedding in 2015 and have a pair of silky palazzo pants and a sequined top. I actually googled a rara skirt because I didn't know what that was in case I wanted to wear one and, well, @Mayhip8 and @ChrissyW at my age and with my legs I decided against it, because then Michael and Hugh would catch sight of me and be laughing too hard to sing their show tunes. See you soon and wont that first cocktail taste good.
Maybe a Long Island Iced tea this time.

Good evening ladies
Have to say how much I enjoyed your company at the Ivy this afternoon- who could have guessed that Dame Judy Dench and Joanna Lumley on the table next to us would be so entertaining! I particularly enjoyed the cucumber sandwiches and Victoria sponge .. Back to cake Hey? @ChrissyW . And you and @ahipgma both looked stunning in your finery.
I agree that we do seem to be plateauing out and maybe normalising our acceptance of our situation. I love the fact you answered the door forgetting your stick@ChrissyW - just stay safe and upright won't you?!!
@ahipgma you sound like you've got such an exciting weekend ahead - I love Mr potato head and the various expressions he can make - did you ever watch 'toy story? Great depiction of children's toys coming alive - the soldiers were one of my favourites. I hope you will let everyone pamper you and look after you so you don't get tired out .
How did the film end Chrissy? I'm going to watch some DVDs over the weekend -The green mile is one I've had for ages and never had time to watch so that's my matinee tomorrow as the family go off and do their weekend things .
This evening I shall reflect on what fantastic progress we have made so far- long may it continue
Happy Friday ladies :loveshwr::happydance::flwrysmile:

Good morning ladies:wave:. I had a very sleepy afternoon/ evening yesterday (possibly all the conversation with you both at the Ivy and the laughs with Judy and Joanna) so apologies for not catching up sooner. As a result of all the napping I then ended up sipping tea and munching on rice cakes (caramel ones may I add) until one in the morning. I must admit I also considered whether it was appropriate to finish left over curry at that time of day but decided it wasn't (age and indigestion and all) so went to bed at that point. @Mayhip8 the film was the weirdest I'd ever watched and never before have I had to Google the meaning of a film ( no one clear interpretation and one said it was all about Marxism, capitalism and consumerism which I thought, had it been as a sociology teacher, I might have got!) well it was 90 odd minutes of my life I won't get back!
So pleased we had our trip to the ivy and I got my cake though so the day had some positives but I still want more. Wonder if we'll see any more celebrities on our upcoming blue lagoon visit? I've heard the kardashiams have been but I bet they'll stay away when we are going as they will be worried us 3 glamorous girls in our sparkly costumes would put them to shame. On the topic of positives I think we have, like you say @ahipgma , got to the point where we are just taking things as they come, in our stride, which I feel is a good outlook to take and just makes each day feel that bit better. @ahipgma youll have a wonderful weekend with your daughter and granddaughter and I bet you'll have loads of fun with mr potato head. @Mayhip8 im with you on the toy story films, absolutely loved them and I will admit I have watched the 3rd one in the last couple of years, I'll never be too old for a good children's film and happily admit toy story 3 made me cry. Have either of you ever seen disneys 'brother bear' it's a wonderful film but does make me cry every time.
We know @ahipgma has an exciting weekend ahead, what about you @Mayhip8 ? I'm going to the supermarket and my husband is allowing me a longer expedition! He's been very protective so far and for the last 2 weeks I've only been allowed to go and accompany him to get a few bits and pieces after he'd done the main shop on his own ( he knows I'm an indecisive shopper normally so thought it would be better to do us both a favour and keep me at home!) but today I'm being allowed to accompany him from start to finish and if I feel ok there may even be a coffe shop visit for being a good girl! But I will admit to you both I will be sneaking cake in the trolley because I still haven't shifted the craving, despite the Victoria sandwich at the ivy! Have a wonderful day and I'm sure we'll be reporting in later.
Before I go, how often are you both walking without any sticks?
Hugs girlies xx:friends::loveshwr:

:heehee:Good morning ( just about still morning!)
I had a good night again I'm pleased to say- I think the Fantasy Friday's are good for tiring me out !
I had a busy day yesterday before we met at the Ivy , bit of cleaning - teeny tiny ( well OK I cleaned the bathroom floor with a cloth, spray and a crutch as though it were a mop! ) it was bugging me and Mr Hubster - great though he is - hasn't yet translated the words "please could you mop the bathroom floor!?" Into action after far too many times of me asking ... Hmmm I'm seriously not being negative but I do love the way people have selective hearing!! For example I never quite hear the words- "take it easy and look after yourself!" :loll:

Anyway my other sister visited - with lemon meringue pie ! Copious brews were taken alongside it and much advice/ laughter and keyboard playing occurred . All my sisters are older than me and each has a different personality it's a good mix- I also have two younger brothers who I'll hopefully see soon.
I went for another walk outside later - when the torrents of rain had settled - I kept two sticks with me but mainly used one - not too uncomfortable either.
I'd forgotten that a good friend of mine is visiting later today - she a nurse I worked with for over 20 years so we'll have a jolly good catch up . I had said to Mr hubster that I would try to walk round a shop as yesterday's online shop failed - however I've postponed it until tommorow and we may call at a local park to see some greenery on the way home ( IF I can get in my car!!!)
Tonight my daughter is having her freind sleepover as Hub, son and them are marshalling a vintage ralley at stupid O'Clock in the morning :scaredycat:rather them than me...

I'm walking around short distance in the house without my stick - but because my other hip is sore I don't /can't put too much pressure on it - my operated hip feels comfortable though and I'm so pleased with its movement, the healing scar and looking forward to getting the other one sorted . My gait is still Limpy and I can feel a height difference which I'm hoping will be corrected next surgery . I'll be quite interested to see how much my trousers will change - not necessarily waist /hip / thighs but length :heehee:.
I'll keep a look out for ' Brother bear' @ChrissyW
Is anyone watching " Killing Eve " later?. Can't wait!
@ahipgma i hope mr Potato head is smiling alongside your lovely family
Enjoy ladies :wave::flwrysmile:

Just dropped by. Saw you're a killing Eve fan @Mayhip8 . We often record a whole series and then have a marathon watch do not sure if that's what we will do this time , we dd with the last series and have done the same with riviera 2, which was great. Glad your lemon meringue was enjoyed and perhaps you have a tiny bit you could indulge in later ir maybe your friend will bring cake reinforcement! Xx

Good morning / afternoon all!
It is so wonderful how our chats have changed from pain meds and ice to socializing and shopping and best of all, cake discussion!!
My granddaughter loved Mr potato head and we are having nice anatomy lessons making sure his ears and eyes go where they're supposed to go!
@Mayhip8, we downsized to a smaller house 2 years ago, to my great joy not so much outside work with shrubbery, just a little cottage with one bathroom.
Needless to say I fuss about the cleanliness of said bathroom because anyone visiting me uses that bathroom. So I clean everything I can without kneeling down and just tell Hubs he has to do the rest, but I must say ingenious use of a crutch to clean:thumb:
I have been driving since 2 weeks post surgery but very laborious getting in and out of the car. My cane is a great comfort to me, and I use it when out and about but not in the house anymore @ChrissyW and you know it's getting to be more for the leg yet to be done than for the new hip leg! June 13 is my OS appt where I'll get an x ray, check in with him to maybe get a firm date for hip #2.
Our weather here has been dry and fairly sunny, and today we are going to a high school graduation party of some dear family friends' daughter. Big graduation party season right now, with way too much good food so I need to watch it.
It sounds as though the are a lot of wonderful TV options to keep you entertained as you heal.we have a pretty good channel selection here too but I especially love to watch Antiques Roadshow. However get me in my cushy recliner and I'm watching but fall asleep and dream of that doodad hidden in my house that's worth a million dollars that will enable me to fly to the UK to visit and share cake and pie for real.
Have a lovely rest of the Saturday!
Hugs from across the pond:friends:!

Happy One Month Anniversary!
I hope you're having a great day across the pond.
You three are entertaining, that's for sure. I'm trying to keep up, but failing miserably at times.
You'll forever remember one another as Recovery buds. I still hold a special place in my heart
for a handful that I went through Recovery with. Fun times to look back on for sure.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
@Mayhip8

@Layla you are so right about our little team, we have bonded like superglue! So good to feel like you are still socialising even when you aren't out and about.
@Mayhip8 happy anniversay - obviously that will mean cake so please do have a douche for me! I purchased a coconut cream sandwich cake to satisfy my craving and was also fortunate enough to sample a white chocolate and raspberry cake in the supermarket. They had samples and it was a full slice and exceptionally yummy, but that's enough about cake for now!@ahipgma hope mr potato head has no unfortunate surgery transplants and make sure, if he does, he ices and elevates!
I've just had a mad 30 minutes with my mad cat and her new toy. I've been watching the programme 'my cat from hell' with Jackson Galaxy, and he uses these feathery flying toys and I'd ordered some, great exercise for her and my arms! I got bored before she did but it was very funny to watch her bouncing around, doing 360degree spins looking like a proper Panther ( she's a little black thing) doing the hunt, catch, kill, eat but unfortunately she is actually trying to lick the feather to death.
Massive hugs and happy day to everyone

So glad you check in @Layla and we're a supportive group for sure. Especially depending on that for when@mayhip and I have #2!!! Our by then mobile @ChrissyW will have to dance to entertain us as we rest and ice again.
Casually hopped on the scale today and almost died. This lack of activity coupled with my getting back to cooking and baking has resulted in a horrible situation.....:groan:
I wonder if OSs do liposuction on the side....:thud:

@ahipgma i will happily entertain you when you go for round 2 but you'll have to be careful not to fall over laughing at my attempt at dancing. I've no plans to go anywhere and will be cheering you both along all the way? :yay:We possibly need to write a cheer ditty and I'll get myself some Pom poms!:egypdance:
Also, ignore the scales and go on the fit of your clothes. Don't forget we now have metal parts and we are building up more muscle and that certainly weighs more! What is important is how you feel and once everything is over and you have both your bionic hips if you decide to lose the weight you will be able to. You enjoy the weekend xx:friends:

OMG , @ChrissyW thanks for assisting with a little rationalizing--- I wonder if my new hip weighs 8 lbs because that's what the scale said:bawl: but maybe that's it..
You enjoy your weekend too and thanks again hippy friend!

I picked up a titanium hip, socket and ceramic cup to examine at pre-op and it was really heavy! I reckon about three bags of sugar heavy......in fact I just checked a web site and it reckons about 3-5lbs! Forever learning...
So add that to extracellular fluid and increased circulation to healing area I reckon you could have that second slice of chocolate brownie- it's got vitamins and protein in to help you heal @aphigma. I wonder if it will set off the security at the airport when you visit us on a pie and cake sharing expedition?

I agree with @ChrissyW - go on how your clothes fit and how you feel in general. It's still very early days and our bodies need nutrients found in cake ( and liver, cabbage, sprouts, kale, lettuce, etc )- but my visitors are bringing cake and not veg so it would be rude to not eat it :rofsign:
Today my friend brought me some beautiful flowers and so no cake ( though I did have some meringue from yesterday)
@ ChissyW I love 'killing Eve ' - I binge watched it last series as shift work really messes up any telly viewing and me and hubby could finally watch something together. This afternoon I binge watched nearly a whole series of "Dead to me" on Netflix ... So good
I love the imagery of your cat jumping up catching the toy and licking flying feathers !!!
And I wonder if you will utilise some of her moves in your cheerleading routine?!!:loll:
@Layla Thankyou for your good wishes - I hadn't realised the date ! Crikey!!! 4 weeks !! How it has flown- and so very many thanks for you and the other moderators for watching over us and making us feel safe and supported . I wonder if you will be (virtually) joining us at the the Blue lagoon?
I will leave it there now as My son has prepared me a yummy Pizza!
Talking of weight gain ....
Love and hugs xx:roseshwr:

Just popping in to say good evening and if you haven't seen the film 'the favourite' it's well worth a watch, I've just watched it along with my favourite dish from my favourite little Indian restaurant, which we would have gone to but there would have been no way I could access the loo never mind the actual seat when in the loo so they kindly delivered our order.
I'll start planning my cheerleading choreography for after your round 2 @ahipgma and @Mayhip8 and monitor cat moves though I may need to omit the 360 spin and somersault which somehow she can do with ease but I'd be quite happy to have feathers in my Pom Pom while I cheer though!:catbutterfly:

Good morning ladies. Well good morning now to you @Mayhip8 and it will be good morning to you too @ahipgma when you awake as if my calculations serve me right it's actually 4am your side as I write.
Just wanted to drop by and see how you were doing and how the night went before I get ready for the day. What are your plans for this Sunday? We're going to pop over and see how my younger son is so this will be my longest journey so far ( as a passenger), at between 45-60 mins away.
Hope sleep was good ( I took some herbal nytol) and your day is great and I'll drop by later to see what exiting adventures you have had today:flwrysmile:

Hi all-
A beautiful sunny Sunday here in Pittsburgh PA. Daughter and granddaughter still visiting till later today. Went to church and took
my granddaughter. She was a little restless but it was nice. We have belonged to this church for 26 years and those who have watched my daughter grow up were able to meet her daughter.
Later we are going out to eat ,always a treat for me b/c I'm not cooking!
Hope you enjoy your ride @ChrissyW and no bad bumps in the road! A nice weekend for being with children.
Hope all is well with you too, @Mayhip8!

@ahipgma i survived my trip and it was lovely to catch up with my son in person, even though we were on with him just over an hour it was worthwhile and nicer than a phone call. He has had some hard times emotionally and it was good to be able to give him a few hugs. He might be over 6 ft but he's always my baby! You are right, seems like we've had a family focused day and glad your grand daughter got to experience the family church. It might not mean anything to her now but it's the shared family experiences we remember as we grow up so that will be one of hers with her gran. @Mayhip8 how was your day and how did the boys enjoy the vintage rally and did you get to do any shopping? I've never done on line food shopping, I like to choose my produce! ( I will regularly sniff fruit - I'm the weird woman others mumble about in the supermarket!). :spin:

Good evening ladies
It's good to hear of your Sunday plans
How was your journey @ChrissyW ? That's a fair way to travel there and back - how do you feel this evening ? I bet it was great to see your son .
@ahipgma and I'm sure it was lovely to have your family around you this weekend . Many happy memories being made and
I slept badly - probably because my daughter had a freind staying and although they weren't giggling into the wee small hours I was concious that they had to get up at 6Am to help out at the Vintage Ralley as planned .
I got up at 04.30 to drink tea and watch the birds again
I went back to my nest after the family left at 6.30 and slept to catch up
I was feeling a bit nervous because I'd planned to go supermarket shopping this afternoon ( a girl can't have too many supermarkets!!) and I wondered how I'd be ! Something I did nearly every day of my grown up life and I was worried in case I slipped/ fell/ wanted a rest and couldn't find a chair/ forgot what to do just because I have a new hip and crutches ....
My husband was excellant at picking out the stuff we needed and very patient! It was good to chat with other customers too I have to say . We then drove to a local park and sat surrounded by trees , woodland, birds tweeting, pouring rain and it was just lovely .
I was exhausted when I came home but am better after a rest now
So , another week has passed and I wonder what the next will bring?
My children have exams at school this week so I think a few special de-stress treats may be in order
Does anyone else have any plans or goals?
Have a comfortable and relaxing Sunday evening :loveshwr::flwrysmile:

Great minds think alike @ChrissyW -we must have been writing at the same time!!
I laughed at your sniffing trait - I have a habit of sniffing things sometimes without thinking- and my family are astounded that I manage to curtail the habit at work but not at home :yikes::loll::heehee:
I also agree - our babies will always be our babies no matter how big and mature and grown up they are . It's such a precious gift to be able to love and feel loved

Is it GCSEs or A levels they have @Mayhip8 ?im a big supporter of exam treats. Also bananas and lots of water really good. Water we all know but one of the universities doc research on bananas as brain food I the exam period and said it worked so I always advise my students to have a banana for breakfast in some way? Wishing them luck whatever exams they are doing. Glad your shopping went without problem and hopefully no one stopped your sniffing. How else should one select the best strawberries!!:heehee:
