So I am one week prior to my bi-lateral hip replacement. AUGHHHH. I have congenital bilateral acetabula protrusio, left one particularly bad and was fused 38 years ago. Pain is occasional but flexibility is nil, so getting hips replaced. Dr. Bryon Nestor, originally from HSS in New York now here in MN.

Major checkmark: Eldest passed her driver's test so yeah! I have a chauffer.

@houndmom I had bilateral hip replacement almost 3 years ago - and i couldn't be happier. The anticipation was much worse than the actual event. Keep with the forum for support and do your PT religiously (I still do it) and you'll be fine. Best of luck.

@houndmom - Looking forward to your recovery posts. Relax, think positive thoughts, and be grateful this type of surgery is even possible. I can't imagine the dramatic improvement in your life going from a fused hip to a new hip joint! Incredible! All of us are wishing the best for you!

    Best of luck!

I only had one hip done but I am so thankful I found this forum. I posted preop like you just did and I got plenty of cheers and support. Then after my surgery I posted in the recovery forum and again, the support is so helpful. By reading both the preop and recovery threads prior to surgery, I found it gave me a much better idea ofmsomemofmthe things I might expect like "a log leg" for example. I also got ideas on what I might need at home after surgery. Lots of info here and always someone willing to answer any questions.

I wish you all the best and I feel sure you will be glad you made the decision to have it done!

@houndmom Monday will be 3 weeks since my bilateral THR...owowowow is right. Hope you are resting, icing, and keeping yourself fully medicated. Once you think you might live again, there is so much good support and information available here for you. Hang in there... This too shall pass. Best wishes on your recovery

The first week is such a blur..I hope you are relying on your pain meds and don't forget to drink drink drink. Now that the deed is done, all will be getting better. This is the week in my recovery where I was doubting my decision to have bilateral hip replacement and it took until 2 weeks in before I started to see a faint light at the end of the recovery tunnel. I am cheering for you.

@gaulsuerou You will be in so much better shape than most as you have been cruising this forum for a little while now. As stated before, hate the long wait you have but surely you have seen a pattern. Especially bilaterals. Hate life 1st week. Take lots of pain meds, ICE ICE ICE, rest. You and I are gonna be the spunkiest bilat THRs with great recovery stories as long as we heal the right way. (oops, with the exception of IrishJoe maybe)

@Moho333 thanks, I'm wishing now I had scheduled it sooner but trying to get around all the pre-existing vacations we had scheduled made me push it out to July. Oh well it'll get here soon enough just want it to be over, and yes I'm certainly well read on the subject.
