Hi all,

Is manipulation a normal thing after surgery? It doesn't sound pleasant!

Are you needing one?

To answer your question, happily they are the exception rather than the rule. Generally they are neither particularly pleasant nor unpleasant. Usually a quick anaesthetic, the surgeon will put your leg and knee through a range of motions and make it go further than you have been doing during PT. Sometimes they are a bit painful after but the object is to increase the range of movement which is important.

No I don't need one, I was just reading the stories on here and I was curious about it.

Thanks

Ever notice, those hip people don't need manipulation?

Yea Jenn! What's that about, no mani? I should be quiet...One day I'll be one of them.

My manipulation, in coordination with the second knee replacement was great! No swelling and most important of all, it's given me an extra 12 degrees of extension so I can walk like a normal person, maybe. I can bend back to 120 without trying and at least my right knee feels like a normal knee. I'm thinking, once my secon kr recovers, I will be able to ride a normal bike, something I couldn't have done without the mani. Thank you doctor!

1jt, I am so glad the manipulation went well for you. Plus the 2nd TKR. What a blessing to be moving forward!

Amen..... Now if my other joints will hold out for awhile, I'll be good to go....
