Manipulation this week--a little scared!

Beach and Jamie,
Be very cautious of personal trainers in gyms. I'm not sure if there are regulatory requirements but I've seen them take folks who are terribly out of shape and half kill them on the first workout.
You probably have a good idea of what works for the knee. Bike, treadmills on incline. Light high rep. leg press.
Have them explain the various machines. Maybe watch the trainers with others and then select one for yourself.

That is EXACTLY why I have chosen to stick with my PT. I trust them to at least do no real harm. Even if sometimes I think they are a little overzealous they do know post-surgical re-hab.

This all makes me so grateful for my PT guy. I worked with him before and now after my surgery. we go through what he calls the bread and butter leg exercises, yes stuff I can & do alone at home, but in addition he stretches me and pushes it further than I will. It doesn't hurt, but it is more than I can do alone. They also have the equipment I don't have like Beach said. I also like the fact that I really do a better job when at PT. I am more consistent/accountable, (right word?). I might like to join a gym at some point, but I don't want to get in a place that is more advanced than I am able. For now I'll stick with PT, but i like the access to the equipment. I had a friend who also had Bi-lats and she joined a gym after and lost a lot of weight. Then people & $ in her life got insane and she couldn't keep going. She started gaining the weight back, bad for knees. I asked her why she didn't just go for a walk, no need for the gym. She gave me a list of excuses. Point is, I don't ever want to loose MY basic ability to move by my choice. gym is a luxury, PT at some point becomes luxury, the best exercise I can get for my new knees is walk and my bread and butters. What I do with my new opportunity at life and moving is up to me.

I've mentioned this before - gonna mention it again. My son was a licensed personal trainer while in college (and heck no, I would NOT let him NEAR me after my surgery!!)...during his summer's in college he was a personal trainer. Most of his clients were women....MOST of those women were strippers. Poor college guy - had to help strippers get their buns in shape!!!....funny thing, he was NEVER late for work and never asked for a day off!!

Please don't say he was a hands on kind of trainer! Hi Patti :)

Your gorgeous daughter is safe with him as a brother.

Same here. Think I'll open the window. My wife will wake up like godzilla. I'll deny I did it on purpose..Get her back for keeping me up when they got home last night.

Why am I telling you all this?? What if you do actually meet some day..I'm screwed...

She was actually HERE this weekend - we talked - a LOT.....I suggest you contact an attorney!

You, her and Skeet together...A thought....I'd have to start drinking again.
I can just here it..."Oh, tell me about his monkey".
The dogs might have a new toy.

Na, I can just threaten to expose his trist with a male duck.

Just picture some poor individual somewhere else in the world...they found bonesmart. The help they wanted.
And some fools are talking about their monkey..

Doug, I appreciate your warning. I was not talking about a PT (Personal Trainer like at a gym), but meant a PT (outpatient Physical Therapist). My doctor warned that even the physical therapists can get a little pushy with the exercises sometimes and you end up with the situation Beach described....where you spend a day or more recovering from the swelling following your session. I won't be doing that at all!!! Thanks for watching out for us!!!! I love it that you care....

Doug.....are you suggesting she might throw YOU to the dogs???? Surely not!!! Who would do all the cooking and cleaning????

Naw..She wouldn't feed me to the dogs. The dogs might get an upset stomach.
