Hi everyone. I am having a manipulation done on Thursday and I am a little scared. The thought of being "put under" again and not knowing what to expect afterwards scares me a little. Can someone tell me what is going to happen? I have PT on Friday the day after and I am hoping for better results.

It will be brief, that I can promise. Manipulations rarely last more than 4-5 minutes. Once you wake you will be in pain but just remember that it is all in a good cause and it will soon get better - in a day or so. They'll get you to physio just as soon as they can, as soon as you are awake, to maximize on the freed up knee.

Hope all goes well for you, LB. We'll look forward to hearing from you on Friday.

Jo, won't they give something for pain like after the surgery? Maybe not as strong, but something?

It's going to be okay, had it done 4 weeks ago and the pain does subside after about 12 hours. You will be so happy after you go to therapy because you will see a difference I promise.
I'll be thinking of you and just remember I am a huge baby and if I can do it you can also.
Cathy

Hi Ladyblue

Good luck with your manipulation on Thursday. My surgeon is considering giving me one, I go to see hom in a couple of weeks.

Let us know how you get on. Hugs, Sue

Ladyblue,
Sorry for asking because I am sure you have posted it somewhere but I have been out of touch, why do you have to do this? The maniputlation? What is your ROM at? Is that why?
I feel like I am really behind on my latest knee because of the severe swelling and pain, much worse than my other one. My knee is only at 70 and I am at 12 days.
Last time I know I was over 90 by now. I had some other issues though also, so I just haven't been concentrating like I should. I am starting in harder working on it tomorrow.
Just curious if you don't mind.

I wish you all the lluck. Please try not to be scared, you know we will all be here praying for you, waiting for you to come back.

Kath

To heck with the 'not strong'! We'd open the drug cupboard doors and fire the lot!

ladyblue, fire away! You'll be good then and I will say a prayer for speedy rebound and maximum progress. Jen

I may be weird, Patti hush, but being 'put under' or put out as I call it, has never bothered me. If I don't know whats going on, it doesn't bother me. When my doc was talking to me about doing the mani, I was definately going to be 'out'.

Hey everyone....it is over and done with....YIPPEE!!! Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The hardest part was waiting to be taken into the OR. Only thing that bothered me was the ice pack on the leg...having ice on my knee/leg makes the entire limb throb in pain. They gave me a shot of morphine in the recovery room and another script for Percocet. Right now I want to sleep! One nurse told me to rest today and keep it elavated and another said to keep it moving. Going to do a little of both. Tomorrow is PT and the doctor ordered PT 5 days a week for 2 weeks. Thanks so much to everyone for the kind words and prayers--it means a great deal to me. I will keep you all posted on my progress.

That is GOOD news, ladyblue. Hope you wake up later feeling all fired up and ready for those exercises!!

So glad your'e done, drugged and resting. I was thinking of you this am. Now onward. Happy day. jen

Oh Ladyblue I am so glad this is over for you! Good luck with the PT. I am with you.
I start my PT 3 times a week for 2 months next week, still have the at home one for a few more visits.
Will pray for you a peaceful nights rest. That makes all the difference if you can just grab a few hours.

Kath, how many weeks did you get in home PT? Wonder why I only had it for one week before getting sent out to the real world.

So glad you are past the manipulation, Ladyblue. I hope your PT goes well and your ROM is dramatically improved. God bless!

Ladyblue....FANTASTIC news that you made it through the manipulation. Here's hoping this turns a corner for you and you get more ROM quickly. Please let us know how things go and I'm rootin' for you!

Went to PT this morning (have to go five times a aweek for 2 weeks)--it was so painful! He pushed my knee down straight and held it there for 30 seconds (3 times)then we did the heel slides using a rope and bent it back more. I am at -5 in straightening the leg and -3 in the bending. MY KNEE IS THROBBING!!! Didn't have this much pain after the manipulation. Doesn't help that it is wet and cold outside today...! Hope that these 2 weeks go by quickly! My next doctor appointment is April 29th and I hope by then that things are better. I better make sure that I take my percocet before I go to PT!

LadyBlue-
It will be ok.... take those Percs and do everything you can to relax while they are working on your knee. Listen to music, practice visualization techniques, do deep-breathing (LaMaze?) and it will be okay. The more relaxed you are, the more progress they can make with your knee.
You need to use this window of opportunity that your manipulation has opened for you. I am sure it is not easy--- but you can do it. We'll all be thinking and praying for you.

Hang in there, Ladyblue and keep that knee loose. Don't give up!!!

We've got damp weather heading in and I know how you feel, my knee is throbbing SO bad and the back of my calf is aching like the first week after surgery. I had 4 really good days and now I've got a bad day.....it's normal, I guess.

Best Wishes for you!

It sounds like they have the right idea for you with therapy each day. That gives you the best opportunity to move forward. I'll be thinking about you so much. This must be very difficult but you'll get there. You sound like a determined lady and we all know that gals rule!!! Keep posting!!!
