Revision TKR Mamie's Recovery Thread

Hi, Mamie. I'm glad to see you're feeling well enough to post on the forum. I'm sending more prayers your way.

Hello @FCBayern, Thank you for your kind words that make me stay focused. It's not always the first choice to be strong, but it's the only way to be a self-advocate. This support group is more valuable than any other treasures in life. I have a few difficult complications to face tomorrow. The blood that pooled in my ear the last several days appears to have caused some damage from taking the Axlerto. Another reason to take care after surgery to avoid blood clots. I will know tomorrow.

Stay Safe and Well,
Mamie

Thank you, @FCBayern. I've seen your comments here and there, and you certainly seem to feel the pain from others. I thank you for your encouragement and empathy. It isn't easy to get through the stages without each other.

I see you are from Lost Wages...I graduated from Bishop Gorman HS there in 1965 and sure did see many leave everything there when gambling. For decades, my aunt has had a motel on the strip, and she was always sure to collect rent at check-in!

Again, thank you for your support and empathy.

Mamie

Good luck, Mamie!! Sorry to read of your plight but just know that prayers and positive energy are coming your way!! :prayer:

Hello Friends,

Tonight (actually, it's already early morning), I find myself unable to sleep again. In a few hours, I have an appointment to see a hematologist hoping he can answer many unanswered questions. It has been a rough road for staying positive and not become depressed. I waited a long time for this appointment and still have not found appointments to help me heal.

Please, may I ask you for your loving and supportive prayers yet again? Prayers seem to be what works the best for the complications my doctors are trying to solve. At this stage in my recovery, I wonder if it is ice or heat you use, but my doctors say to use what feels best. But, time appears to be our greatest asset for healing. The elevation is another question, but it feels less painful when elevated high. Within one hour, whatever swelling reduces, it returns, but I was told that is the nature of a blood clot's behavior. Any advice...hot or cold treatments for an unusual knee revision?

I want you to all know that you are in my heart and prayers daily. Stay safe, well, and kind to yourselves.

Thank you, Again,
Mamie

:prayer: Praying you get some answers that help you @Mamie.

Hello Dizzy and FCBayern.
Thank you for your prayers. It's been a long day but still waiting for answers.

Mamie

It's just as the doctors have said, Mamie.....hot or cold for your knee....do whatever feels and works best. You may need to rotate between the two, if that works. There is no one right answer. Your comfort is the important thing right now.

Please keep posting, Mamie. Anxious to hear of your progess...

Hi Mamie... I wanted to see how you’re doing. I hope you get answers AND that you feel better! Just wanted to give you some encouragement :) I will be praying for you...

Hello Friends! I just wanted to drop in and say to you, you are all in my prayers. I'll be back soon. Thank you so much for caring and sending me your prayers and best wishes.

:happyfeet: One day, I will dance with this character! And you will also.

Hello My Friends!

It was so great hearing from you, and I wanted to give you a heads up on my progress.

I am sorry to be so quiet; I am still struggling. I have been dealing with a blood clot that has now reached the area of my crotch to my foot. I am on blood thinners now for 3 months, and the good news is that while the clot has not begun to dissolve, my knee cap area is looking more defined than before. The swelling is still quite bad, so I have a question I can't find the answer for.

So far, my blood clot, while painful, it is causing shocking water retention. So far, almost 33 pounds. I keep thinking I am just gaining weight, but my leg is huge. Does anyone know just how much fluid a clot can cause? Weight gain of 6 to 8 pounds every two to three days seems unlikely to be from my diet since my appetite is small. If anyone could help me with more knowledge about blood clots, please share. Please do not allow my situation to scare you from repairing your knees. I have other medical health issues that may have played a huge part, plus my surgeon was not the best with follow-through.

May God Bless you all and keep you safe while you wait for surgery, heal from it, or living with your new implants. Stay safe and be happy. A new year is here, so we all will find peace with healing.

One day we can all celebrate living with or dancing with happy feet and legs supported by our new knees!
:happyfeet:

Glad to see you, Mamie. I've been hoping you'd be checking in. Sorry to see that you are still struggling. I hope this blood clot of yours goes away soon. It seems that is delaying your recovery.
Know that I am sending positive energy and prayers your way!

Mamie,
Thanks for the update, I do not have any answers for you about your blood clot, other than you would need to ask the specialists involved in your care.
Hope you find an answer to your question.

Hello again,
I’m not sure any of you remember me, but I am still struggling and have now developed additional clots, which all is connected to my revision July 2020. I’ve learned a lot since this journey of mine began. I’d first like to apologize for being missing in action, but it does not mean I have forgotten the support and love from this group. You have all remained in my prayers everyday when praying the rosary. Please, if I can give anyone a single piece of advice, be sure you know The Who, what’s, when and hows to the surgeon you put in charge of your lives. Know your surgeons.

While struggling, it’s not all been bad. Along the way, many fine medical professional and doctors have jumped in to help, as well as BoneSmart.

I believe we may be on the right track. The doctors have me using injectable Lovenox and for the first time I'm making progress. My blood count is improved and some energy restored. The best part of it is being perky enough to return here so I can begin again supporting you. I’ve missed being here with you. This group for all those who are new can help you from finding good surgeons to support you from one stage to another. And PT, the best is right here with every single strengthening exercise and at what stage. They recommended a cream to help heal your incision wound and it works!i

SO, I will see you all again soon. Keep up your spirits and allow your body to rest! ICE, ELEVATE, WALK AROUND (you're not running a race!) AND REST.

PLEASE ‘DO NOT FORGET TO GET AND WEAR YOUR SUPPORT HOSE TO AVOID CLOTS.

Love and Prayers to ALL..
Mamie
PS: BE YOUR OWN BEST ADVOCATE. :happyfeet:

Glad to hear they have found something to help you swelling.
Wishing you continued healing.

Hello and Good Afternoon!

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. Last September/October, after getting no help from my surgeon and compression, someone here helped me with a lead. I bought the sleeve but had to return it since it would not fit. My swelling has been enormous since the time of surgery in July.

Because my surgeon bailed with any support following surgery, my regular doctor has tried to be helpful, though orthopedics is not his thing! My leg is fighting the assault from blood clots, pain, and swelling so bad it splits the tissues and causes more trouble. My go-to doctor is sending me to a therapist specializing in edema, compression wraps, and hose. I see her tomorrow.

Has anyone used this type of compression, and has it helped? It is expensive outside of insurance coverage, but as of now, the blood thinner from December has not helped and, in fact, more clots have developed from the others consequence, causing further swelling. Please share your experience with swelling, compression wraps, hose, and any useful information I may use when at the appointment tomorrow. Fighting clots for months leaves me in a dangerous position with health, so I am excited about tomorrow and hopefully, I will find relief after 8 months of this suffering.

Thank you,
Mamie

I pray you find some answers tomorrow and that they will be successful.
