Hello and Welcome to BoneSmart! Thanks for joining us.
There are members that experienced the MAKO robotic assist. Possibly some will stop by, but in the meantime, try the SEARCH at the top of the page, typing in key words and all of the threads where it's been mentioned will pop up.

I will leave some pre-op reading for you below. Please share the exact date of your surgery and which hip will be replaced so we're able to create a signature for you.
Wishing you comfort and an uneventful surgery and recovery!

I have a MAKO hip now. No big deal, easy peasy. It requires a CT scan so the computer can set markers in your hip, and helps a ton with accuracy.
My recovery has been pretty much seamless with nothing but normal little blips.
I hope yours goes as well.

Hi @zowiedog3
I had a MAKOplasty on my right hip on 9/12.

Surgery and recovery have been outstanding.

My OP leg is almost back to equal strength w my left leg

The science behind it all is fascinating.

The CT scan data is fed into the robot which allows for more perfect alignment of the bionic parts. More repeatable and precise than any surgeon alone could do.

Hi @zowiedog3

Had my MAKO assisted anterior right hip replacement surgery on Wednesday, January 4. It's been 10 days now and to make what could be a long story short I'll simply say WOW!
Walking is painless.
Soreness is now basically limited to the top of my thigh though I do experience pain lifting my leg when getting onto my mattress.
Pain meds I'm using: 500MG Acetaminophen tablet 3 times a day + 81MG Aspirin EC tablet 2 times a day.
Also taking an antibiotic 2 times daily: (Doxycycline Mono) 100MG Capsule.
Used an ice pack on my bandaged incision for the first 4 days post op.
Hope you have a successful surgery and a loving partner to assist you convalesce.

Glad to hear of another MAKO THR asI had a left THR MAKO on 20 January with Exeter stem and so far ok. I am female aged 64 living in the UK. Surgeon said robotic assisted surgery and pre operation CT imaging ensured more exact surgery and only removed absolute necessary damaged bone to achieve best outcome. I am now day 11 on two crutches but can manage on the one crutch , doing the physio, pain relief now reduced and starting to sleep more than 3 hrs at a time. Need leg lifter to move operated leg in and out of bed.The first 3 days are the worst but it very quickly improves. Hope all goes well for you.

Welcome to Bonesmart.
I had a RTKR in August 2021 using Mako Robotic and Stryker knee.
LTHR October 2022 also using Mako Robotic and Stryker hip.
Both are doing great. The hip especially feels exactly like the hip I was born with before it became arthritic.
As others said you'll need a CT scan to determine proper placement. It's very exact according to my surgeon. There's usually a length difference between each leg after THR especially if your other hip is arthritic as well. My surgeon told me it would be about one half inch but even out when I replace my other hip. I've never felt any difference in leg length though.
Best of luck to you. I personally wish I hadn't waited so long.

I had Mako Robotic with the Stryker hip. I think few have been more frightened of this surgery than me. It was a waste of energy. Surgery went perfectly and the hip has fantastic rotation totally pain free. Mako gives the surgeon precision placement. My surgeon thinks it's the best thing since the wheel. Lol
