Hello everyone. I am 30 years old and need to have hip surgery. Does anyone have any info or opinions on which is the best product for longevity between ceramic on ceramic hips v's Smith & nephews Oxinium hip???

Hi Maddox, i'm asking the same question too! I've got an appointment to see the surgeon this wednesday, i'll tell you which one he recommends. Our issue is longevity! I don't care how long it takes to recover from the surgery as long as i am told that it and will last 20 years and maybe more!!! If the doctor garantie me that it will last that long i would do it without hesitation.
But then again garantie or not i need a hip replacement X2. It's the only solution to my problems! I'm sorry I can't be of any help at the moment because i am in the same boat so is everyone on this site. All the best. Sonia s.

Hi Maddox, I've just come back from the doctor. Because of my age he recommended me ceramic on ceramic because of low wear and tear and he said that it will last at least 20 to 25 years. he also said that when i need to have it revised they will only change teh ceramic part not the whole thing.
Hoppefully i will only have hip surgery twice in my life, something that i was very worried. The problem with me is that because my hips are so complex (rare) i will need both hips operated at the same time! Ouch!!! He said that i will be doing thing that i never use to do and that made me feel happy. Now it's up to me to decide when to have the operation. I have another appointment for second opinion (22/May), lets see if this doctor says the same thing. I'll be back... Sonia S.
