Well I am mobility aid free. Although I have the cane for longer distances esp on wet surfaces.

My foot is still concerning.

The knee still has pain and stiff and swollen at different times of the day. The scar stings when I am in the car, so have to find that sweet spot to relieve the pressure.

I have been using bio oil over the scar and massage the scar so not to get adhesions.

I started hydrotherapy this wk, amazing.
Seen my Physio on Friday who I met pre surgery. Lets just be honest I wont be going back to him. I have been in agony after his session and he has told me I have to push myself every day and pain comes with that. He told me unless there is no pain, I am not doing it right.

So with that as he idea of recovery that we have to have pain to recover correctly. He gets a zero for care.

This guy is way behind in his training for rehabbing a joint replacement. Exercising this way will only create a setback in recovery. I can't understand how anyone would think painful exercise after this surgery would be beneficial. It just baffles me.

The best recovery movements are gentle stretches that can be uncomfortable but not painful. I found that by doing just my daily activities was enough for me to recover naturally and without that awful pain.

I wont be going back to him.
Good for you!

Congratulations on listening to your body and taking control of your recovery. It is your knee and you have the right to decide how you want to recover.

We're here for you!

3 months have gone so quickly.
Managing better now.
Keep getting bruises popping up. This morning woke with pain from my hip to my knee. Took me a little to settle it once I got up and walked a few minutes back and forward to the front door.
Occasional zinger but other than that, well on my way to recovery.

Hi, I'm at 3-months and also have the discomfort of pain from my hip to knee! I thought it was the weather, but you are enjoying summer and it is winter here! Maybe it's another stage we have to go through.

Yes, we are summer here in Australia.

I am another month past from this post.

I am progressing well. I feel these are just stepping stones on the way to recovery.

Back to update.
I am well on the way to recovery although I still have issues getting my leg into my car. My car the driver side is on right side of the car so the opposite to those in the USA.
Just getting the leg in and out is still an issue.

I went to see my partners son for his 45th Bday on Friday and he is on a property. Uneven ground and I have only been there a couple of times previously. Very unsure on uneven ground.

I have noticed my gait has changed completely from when I had my previous knee done 9 yrs ago.

Only get some pain and discomfort after I have been out and doing too much. It swells occasionally and the past couple of days have had some zingers going off.

I hope everyone who was my days buddy has also continued to progress. I still elevate and ice when I need too.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.

Update- almost 6 months PO. I turn 60 this week on Feb 1st. Looking back I realise I have actually came quite far in 6 months. The scar looks great which is always a bonus. I have found I still have a few issues worth mentioning. Driving is not an issue but getting in and out of the car is. The leg just is hard to lift in and out. I have an i30 so height wise the seat is good but swinging the leg in and out not 100%. I have swelling and redness if I have been doing too much or walking on an incline.
A couple of weeks ago it was really aching so I took a pain killer so that resolved. Still ice when I need to but all in all pleased to say I am doing better. I do have zingers and numb areas and the foot still feels like I dropped a brick on it. 6 mths later I have accepted this may remain.
Thank you for the support throughout this second journey and for those who are waiting for their surgeries please follow the suggestions in this group. Patience is the key and never allow any one to push you beyond your own capacity. No one but you can feel what you feel, so be brave to say stop. Thank you again for this wonderful site.

@possum_here we had surgery on the same day! Sounds like you’re doing great! I definitely relate to where you’re at…everything getting much easier and more like normal, but still some daily challenges and limitations. I hope thing just continue to get better and better for you!
And happy birthday!

I think at 6 months, I felt more normal but the knee was still the star of every event. Also, I could very easily land myself in the ODIC corner if I tried to really do "normal". There's still a lot of healing going on but you are well on your way.
Congrats!

What are you experiencing with your foot. I'm not sure I understand the "feels like a brick dropped on it" reference.

The top of my foot since the TKR has felt as if I dropped a brick on my foot. Very painful from day one. Even had scans on it because I struggled walking because the foot was so sore.

So my version of explaining is the top of my foot feels like a heavy brick was dropped onto it. I never had this with my first replacement.

Thank you for the Birthday wishes.
Yes, things are much more easier but there are still days when I am reminded there are challenges.

Balance is NOT normal, and my apple watch alerts me to being a falls risk.
