THR LTHR anterior - Recovery diary & waffle

I'm going to seem like a prolific poster! But had to share.
That's ok! We like good news and so will those healing right along with you as well as those reading as they await their scheduled surgery. Yay for some well deserved restorative rest!!

I have already told my oh that we need to go out on Saturday so I can have some air and a walk. It's difficult to do during the week as he has to walk the dog when he gets home at 5, as its getting dark now I don't fancy going with him just yet.
My daughter is here for the day and has helped me pop some washing in and she is now melting my brain watching her YouTube videos downstairs! The company is good.

I've had an eye migraine for the past few days so struggling with reading and being on my phone. It's starting to ease a little now.

I am hoping my 5 weeks fly past! Not that I want to wish time away, but I want things to get a little easier please!

Oh yes, it's Halloween , I'd forgotten. Guess we'll be sitting in the dark tonight and try to persuade the dog not to bark at everything! I would normaly have something in for the village kids but didn't give it a thought this year
Enjoy the rest of the day & sleep well

So I have been icing my hip, but can I place heat on it too? I ask as before the op I used to have to put a warm water bottle on my joint nightly to ease everything - just about to do that on my poor right hip (also have dysplasia on that side!) It's taking a lot of weight at the moment and really aggravated

You can use heat on other areas that are bothering you.
You're very very early in recovery. Your L hip pain is because of both the direct trauma and the resulting massive inflammation/swelling of tissues.

Icing for at least 45 minutes at a time, more if you like, is appropriate both to reduce inflammation and add to your overall pain management.
Heat will increase inflammation and aggravate things.

Today I realised I could lift my new leg to stair height! Before the op that was always struggle due to the pain.
I am also taking a few steps without my stick (very carefully I promise and no pushing of myself)
I have a pt appointment on Wednesday, will be interesting what they say. I am not doing anything apart from walking round the house, a few laps of the garden and going up & downstairs to the loo/for a lay down. When I'm in bed I am doing mircro-movements to engage my muscles but none of the bed exercises. This is what my body is comfortable with. I am very happy with my lifting achievement ☺️

I too over the years had great results with micro movements - when the brain, nerves, and muscles communicate that way it is a highly effective form of rehab.

Just got back from my first proper walk outside. Went to the local park with my oh & the dog. It was lovely to be outside in the fresh air. I'm now sat icing my leg and drinking a protien shake. We popped in to lidl to grab a few things I couldn't get in the online shop (realy wish lidl had online!) And that was really good too...a bit of normality I won't say it didn't hurt, it did, but it wasn't massive and more a protest of than doing too much!

I've had 2 side naps now, really hoping that in the next week I feel 'safe' enough to sleep that way! Getting annoyed waking up with a dessert in my mouth
Things are getting easier and I'm reallyhoping I can start driving again soon - I'm in an ev, fully automatic so my new leg has nothing to do! I want my kids home again

It sounds like good progress!
With my knees I found it really helpful to alternate a "do more normal stuff!" day with one or two lower activity days along with the ice and elevation.

Yep, my oh is very in to training and he keeps telling me the same thing, rest days and training days (aka normal days)

Exciting news (well for me!) I only had 2 toilet trips last night and at 5.25 I went back to sleep ON MY SIDE it was the most blissful 1.5 hours sleep I've had in the past 10 days would have slept longer but the dog came to find me
Also, admins is there anyway to change the name of my thread?

Fantastic! I am so jealous of the side sleeping. I almost went for it at 3:30 a.m. but chickened out.

How do you pull a small section from a post to quote?! (I'm using a mobile)
Dressing is off, a small part at the end hasn't quite healed, so smaller dressing back on for 3 days. I have to say I am very impressed, the incision is smooth and super neat! Am I allowed to post a pic?
Of course, now I'm super wary of anything going near it I liked the big cushion dressing keeping it safe!

I've honestly never mastered that selective quote maneuver too well, and what I do on my Kindle likely won't translate to a phone!

Yes, you can post your photo here on your thread or on this " show us your scars" thread!

I know what you mean! I chickened out a few nights ago. It will happen for you :)

I'm going back to my proper bed tonight, so looking forward to it! Hopefully it will help get rid of the horrible rash I now have on my back from sleeping on the, far too warm, foam mattress - currently lathered in sudocrem!

Argh, I keep catching myself trying to do stairs 'normally' I actualy did go down a couple by accident this afternoon , everything felt OK but I told myself off
