Hello all,
I have been running a low grade temp. for 2 1/2 weeks now. It started
when I went off oxycotin, I know I know you all said thats not a withdrawl
symptom but just wanted to give a time frame.
I had my first THR on March 3, then they the OS went back in on March
16, because of infection (MRSE), after I finally got to come home on
April 7 from being in the hospital for a while I was put on IV antibiotics
then after that I was put on oral Levaquin, I quit taking that it will be 2 weeks this coming Friday (May 21). The incision site looks good, a little warm
but not red or anything. I did go to my family doctor last week and he did some labs they all came back normal. When I was to my OS on May 8, he did
labs CBC, sed rate, and those were all GOOD.
Soooo does anyone have any suggestions??
Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

Gail H.

hey gail. after having mrse, its been 10 days since labs. is temp continuing to rise. are you having any drainage. use a measuring tape and measure your thigh and a permanent marker and make a couple smallmarks so you can remeasure in the same place. but watch that way for additional swelling. i would still follow up with os, unfortunatly when there are too many hands on the spoon no one knows who should be stiring. a regular dr wont touch a surgeons work. with the history this far out i would still be cautious.

Oh Gail! So sorry to hear of your troubles! Don't mess around, Call your OS the first thing in the morning to see if he can check you out! My mantra is that it's always better to be safe than sorry! Good Luck and keep posting! :)

Gail just saying last week I ran a lil fever. I was worried, but everything came back ok . Then I got a tummy ache, as soon as the tummy ache went away the fever did. You still need to make sure, and get it checked out fully. There is a lil bug going around according to my Reg Dr. Only my opinion on what happened to me. Dont get worried till there is something to worry about !! ....K....and hopefully not !!!! Will keep you in my prayers......Kim

that is the best thing about labs and dr's. they can do the worrying. its always so hard when your sitting there waiting.

I would definately call my OS's office and ask their opinion. it is always great to get reassurance.

Dakota, I agree. If for no other reason than your peace of mind, talk to your surgeon's office. It is probably nothing, but your past infection makes it important to get that reassurance. You did say you saw your OS on May 8th and got blood work. Did you tell him then about the low grade fever? And, if so, what did he say then? Any hints about what you should watch for or when he expected it to go away?

Hi Gail, I will chime in with the rest and urge you to contact your OS about the fever, especially given your history. Keep posting and let us know what you find out. We care!

Gail, so sorry to hear you've been through so much and are still have problems. I will continue praying for the doctors to solve the mystery and for your complete recovery.

Take care, stay vigilant and keep us posted.

Hello again,
I called my OS and he didn't want me on any antibiotics since I had been on the levaquin
not sure why. The OS nurse said I could call my family doctor, in the mean time I took
some sinus infection medicine (Advil cold and Sinus) and the sinuses seem to be draining.
Now I am not sure if I should get an antibiotic from my family doctor or not. Seems to me
if its an infection then I should be taking one.
Hummmm....
Gail H.

Gail, call your surgeon's nurse back and find out why he didn't want you on antibiotics. You need to understand what is going on with your treatment. Also, I'm not understanding what you mean by the OS nurse saying you could call your family doctor....what were they suggesting you call him for if they didn't want you on antibiotics.

Levaquin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic so that would be the reason why your OS doesn't want you on anything more. It's easy to over-medicate on antibiotics. Plus, if your sinuses are draining and you are feeling better, then you have no further cause for worry. A sinus infection is not a hazard to your hip.

levaquin (floroquinolones)can cause problem with bone . it causes high serum calcium levels, calcium and phosphorus are partners when the calcium is pulled out the phosphorus increases and causes the bone to weaken. with the mrse though you have to have a antibiotic that can kill the infection. i cant read his mind but this could be a reason. this is a med not given to anyone under 18 for that reason

Thanks....what you guys say makes perfect sense to me.

That's both interesting and alarming, mdakota. Do you have a link to the source of that information?

i had a thr on feb 2 and have had a low grade fever on and off since i came home from the hospital. the dr said not to worry that i was still healing and as long as it didn't go over 101 not to worry.

I 2 nd that...all part of healing. Still check with your Dr to make sure or he atleast knows. Hang in there it will get better.......Kim.........How are you doing Farmgirl? I hope you are getting better.........Kim
