Revision TKR Lovetocookandsew’s long road to recovery

Kim,
Glad you are doing well, and were able to climb 2 flights of stairs. I am impressed.

Enjoy your healing chocolate.

@FourCats Amen to that FourCats!

@lovetocookandsew Glad you were able to take the drive to see your daughter & climb those stairs! You are one tough cookie! I know you don’t have much choice- but I don’t know how you make it through the pain without medication. Sending hugs, healing, prayers & love.

You day sounds wonderful,,,, a lot of activity but I’m sure it was so very nice to be out and visiting your daughter.
And the stairs! You Little Rock star!
Now you will rest and do all the good recovery things and I hope the Chocolate hits the spot.. :thumb:

I'm going to repeat what others said, you're a rock star! :wowspring:That was a lot for one day but sounds like it was well worth it. Enjoy your cupcake!

I've discovered the extent of my ability for activities. I've been mostly a couch potato the last two weeks, with some ADLs mixed in. But yesterday, and now today a little, I've been more active. So, anyway, hubby picked up some chicken thighs when he was at the store today, for some Instant Pot recipes we like, as they were out last time we went in to buy some. I have tons of breasts and whole chickens, but have been out of thighs, so he grabbed some while they were in stock. I portioned them into vacuum bags and sealed them all. That was more standing and walking back and forth to the pantry where the vacuum machine is than my leg was happy about, so now I know my limits. We're having an Instant Pot roast tonight, but hubby will peel the carrots and potatoes, so I can easily manage the rest. In the meantime, I'm icing and elevating until then. My pain level hit around an 8-9 as I was finishing the chicken, so I'm done.

We’ll done, Kim! Sounds like you’re doing great. I’m praying that this surgery will resolve all of the issues you’ve been having and allow you enjoy your life. You deserve that after everything you’ve been through!

And tomato-beef with pan-fried noodles sounds wonderful. (I’m going to see if I can find a recipe for that.) And enjoy that cupcake (it’s not peanut butter M&Ms but any chocolate is yummy!).

@CamGram Look for recipes for Chinese tomato beef. Make sure they have you velvet the beef. Then, also look for a recipe for pan fried noodles. Then, just pour the tomato beef over the pan fried noodles and serve. We also add stir fried bell peppers, celery and carrots to our recipe for the dish. It's not a quick recipe, but we love it. Since I'm not up to cooking it right now, we bought it, but homemade is better, as long as you get a recipe that fits your taste buds. We've had it in many restaurants over the years, and the two restaurants we liked it best at are either out of business or in San Francisco, and we no longer go to that city. Strange but true-one of our favorites, and we always ordered it when there was when Harrah's still had a casino in Reno, and before they closed the restaurant, was Cafe Napa, I think it was called. It wasn't a Chinese restaurant, but for some reason they made really good tomato beef chow mein.

I finally ate my cupcake this afternoon-it was pretty yummy.

@CamGram and @lovetocookandsew - you can't tempt us all with Chinese tomato beef and not give us a link to the recipe - my mouth is watering just thinking about it. My cooking has been curtailed for a couple of weeks and I am sure this is a recipe hubby would like to have a go at. xx

@Carol Anna The thing about tomato beef is there are lots of different versions, and IMHO, it depends on your taste buds. We've had the dish in many places, some we've liked, some we've disliked and some we've loved. My suggestion is to search for tomato beef recipes, try the ones that you think you'll like, then tweak them to your taste buds. That's what I've done; we like it a touch sweet, but not too sweet, and we like carrots, celery and bell peppers with ours. I also generally only make it in the summer when our garden tomatoes are ripe as those store tomatoes just don't do it for us. We'll occasionally have it in the winter, but the tomatoes used in winter turn to mush and are tasteless, so for us it's more of a summer dish. But, it's also all in the sauce for us, as that's where all the flavor is.

I took pictures of my surgical sites today. I counted 22 of the :censored: steri-strips-not as many as last year, but still a bunch. And for some reason, they always seem to like me, so hang on forever.

Thanks @lovetocookandsew - I think I might have found a recipe to try. I have to say this is the first time I have heard of velveting. I cook a lot but not a lot of chinese food and can't wait to give this a try. I agree about winter tomatoes and in the summer our greengrocer sells the most amazing locally grown tomatoes. Roll on summer!!!

I just caught up with your posts @lovetocookandsew and want to add a high five to your progress. Your incisions look very good and I think they will be barely noticeable once you are fully healed. I hope your pain and zingers are decreasing - it’s a journey that’s for sure!

I decided I wanted to take my husband to dinner tonight, so we went into town and had dinner. What was most notable about it was, for the first time in a very long time, I DROVE! I haven't been able to drive in so long that I've forgotten how long ago it was when I could drive. I still have to use my left foot to brake, as I have done for years, but I was able to drive. I think I'll soon be able to drive and use my right foot to brake as I tried it today and it was a bit painful, but not as much as it has been. I think once my leg heals from this recent surgery, I will be out of pain and able to do a lot that I haven't been able to do in a very long time.

I was pretty tired after we ate and stopped at the store, so hubby drove home, but I'll soon be done with this energy drain, and my life will improve by leaps and bounds. My knee area is still swollen, as it has been forever, so, barring a miracle, I still won't be able to ride my bike, go up and down stairs properly, and so on. But, if all I get is a pain-free leg, I'll take it.

@lovetocookandsew - great news that you drove hubby to dinner. :dancy: We are due a new car in February and when it arrives I have said I need to get behind the wheel again. Hubby would be happy to drive me around but we both agreed that if he could not drive for any reason I need to keep up my driving. I could also take myself to yoga rather than being chaufeur driven.
I must say thank you for introducing me to velveting - tried it for the first time last night making beef and brocolli in oyster sauce and it was great!!! I don't know why I didn't know about this but thanks to you I do now!!!
I hope that when you swelling goes down you will be able to do much more than just be pain free but I know what you mean it is good to walk with no pain.

Yay! How great to be driving again! Congrats! I hope the dinner was good.

I'm going to have to look up this "velveting". I've never heard of it before!
