For some reason I could not post another question and thank goodness I am able. I feel so out of touch with all of you!

My surgery is in 2 months on June 4th, 09. My surgeon requested that I get the cortisone shots twice before surgery and the 1st did work for 3 weeks. I'm due for the next on the 14th of April but, I'm finding it difficult to even walk or stand for long. It makes me so tired. My entire body aches and my back because I walk so bizarre. Is this normal? I just get so upset and it is so painful! Any help, advice anything would be greatly appreciated.

Jayne, I don't know what your problem was with trying to post, but I'm glad you got it figured out!!! How awful that you needed us and couldn't get a message posted!!! If for some reason that happens again to you, PM Jo and me and one of us will be happy to help you.

I am sorry to hear you are hurting. I guess this just reinforces that you are ready for the surgery that's coming up soon. I hope the cortizone shots help until then. And, until you can get that next cortizone shot, what pain meds are you on? It sounds like you need something. If you are still in pain, you need to let your doctor know.

Just a funny question....why is it so long until your surgery??? It seems to me they should be able to schedule you sooner.

Hang in there Jayne!

Before my LTKR my knee hurt even when I was sitting with it up, in bed - just very painful all the time. My back would ache because it was tired and my left foot was even bothering me. Immediately after surgery, although still in pain, I found the pain to be not as bad and - I don't know how to explain it - just different, more bearable. This is probably because I knew this pain would go away.

After six weeks I find that I can walk way longer without pain then I could before. My back is a bit bothersome because I'm now using the muscles in a proper way - but not what the back is used to.

It's still a world of WOW's for me and you will get here too.

Post often, it really has helped me in so many ways, this is a great bunch of people!

Just try and remember - This too shall pass and once it's over you will find such relief!

Stay strong,
Diane

There has to be a period between an intra-articular injection and surgery because of the risk of infection, Jamie. So the timing looks about right to me.

It seems iniquitous to me that your insurance companies can dictate your treatment despite what the surgeon thinks is appropriate. Outrageous!

Jamie, Yes thank you for helping me!! You also Diane and JO!!

I have been doctoring with these knees for over 11 years. When I first realized I had a problem the surgeon I went to wanted to do surgery right away. I was 48 at the time and my family doctor felt that I was too young so he sent me to Pittsburgh, Pa to a Sports Medicine Center that took care of the Steelers, Pirates etc. They helped me a lot! The reason I didn't have surgery was because the surgeon I'm having do the surgery is not in Pittsburgh and when I first went to him he said that he could do the surgery this February. I decided to go back to Pittsburgh because I just wasn't sure and got my Gel shots again. They didn't work this time and by the time I decided to have surgery my surgeon was booked. I didn't want anyone else because I checked him out and he was the best in my area. I didn't want to travel to Pittsburgh, 2 hours from my home and all my other doctors plus my husband has Parkinson's. So it is really my fault for the delay.

Diane thank you for all your information. I definitely feel much better mentally after your comments.

Right now I'm taking Darvocet. It helps and it is my fault that I am still trying to act like I'm able to function normally. We own a grocery store and I was working yesterday and I realize now that I have to stop. Our daughter wants to own the store some day so I have let her take over many of my duties and she does help my husband. I have hired a housekeeper and will keep her forever! Ha!

Jo---how are you??
I really thank all of you so much!

There you go, Jayne!! Some excellent decisions on cutting back a little in activity for now. It's a great opportunity for your daughter to shine too, so it's a win-win situation. Sometimes we women feel like we HAVE to do it all just because we always have. But it's a wise person that can recognize when to let others step in to help. I'm proud of you!!!

Jayne!!! Jamie is right on the mark as usual! Sometimes you
Have to take a step back to appreciate the view! Take it easy!!! :)

Jamie and Judles really are right on the mark with their advise! It is sooo hard to let go of things that we've always done and let others take up the slack. It's also hard to wait for the surgery--even when the waiting is your own choice. I'm in the waiting room, too, and also through my own choice, so I'm right there with you!
Give your husband and daughter a big hug and thank them for being there for you--you're so lucky to have them both!
Blessings,
Irene
