My dad lives in China and he is a farmer. He has been having knee pain for more than 10 years, and it's getting worse and worse.

I remember he told me the damage to his knees was caused by heavy work he had done when he was a teenage, when my grandpa p***ed away and he had to work very hard to support the whole family(two younger sisters and grandma).

Now, he is almost 70 and having a lot of pain with his knees. I am looking for help for him.

The immediate thought is knee surgery. I want to find out what procedures he needs to follow to decide what option is best for him. How much it will approximately cost.

Thanks,

S Huang

Well, first of all he needs to have an xray to discern the extent of the damage. Then he needs to find an appropriate surgeon to carry it out. This surgeon may or may not wish to perform an examination called an arthroscopy which is literally putting a telescope into his joint to get a direct visual on the condition of the joint. There's a lot of damage to the soft tissues that doesn't show up on an Xray. After that he will need to have a medical to ascertain his fitness for surgery and the anaesthetic.

I am sorry but, speaking from the Uk, prices are not something we ever have to worry about!!
