I am so excited 4 months after my right tkr I have returned to work. Only doing a few hours a day. I was so worried but found my knee held out so well. I took painkiller before going to work and didn't need any more for another 6 hours. Hooray. Things improving. Still get restless leg at night. Not quite so often. May I suggest if any one out there gets the same. Try tonic water. Marvelous. Its the quinnine in it. They gave me this in hospital. Almost immediatly calms it down. Lizzie.

Welcome, Lizzie!!! So glad to hear you are progressing nicely. You might also try a heating pad at the small of your back for those restless legs. That worked for me.

Welcome Lizzie! Keep up the great recup! :)

Lizzie! What GREAT idea! My old aunt always used tonic water when she got restless legs and would recommend it to people again and again, also for when they got cramp in their calfs. Why ever didn't I think if it before? Beats me!

See, first post and you've already made a major contributions to the board! Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Now I'm going to be nosy and ask my usual question ... at which hospital did you have your TKR? You sound like you've had a really amazing recovery. I'm impressed and hope I do the same!

Welcome Lizzie! Sounds like you're doing very well, congrats!

About the tonic water...do you have any idea if this would work for someone who pretty much always has restless legs? Hubby has it pretty bad, but the drugs for it are worse than the symptom so he just twitches.

Quinine water seems like a much more innocuous remedy, does it take very much of it to feel the effect? Now the trick is to see if hubby will drink some--he doesn't do ANY soda, tea or coffee. Yikes!

Isn't it wonderful the way all of the old folks remedies we heard about as kids have come full circle and once again prove right. I just love it. Welcome to the forum lizzie and congratulations of returning to work. Don't forget to take care of yourself in your excitement about being back. Look forward to reading more of you posts. Once again congrats and welcome. Rowdy

My grandmother just used to drink a glassful last thing at night before she retired. She swore by it.

Tonic water tastes pretty strange just by itself....maybe with a little gin and a lime wedge....just sayin'......LOL

Now that's one of my favorites! Really...especially on a summer day. However, hubby doesn't do ANY alcohol at all--ever--never has, doesn't like the taste of it. On the bright side, it means that when we go out or to parties, I never have to worry about a designated driver!

And I'll be SOOOO glad to get off the pain meds so I can have an occasional glass of wine again. I miss that.

Well, grannie was a Methodist and strictly teetotal. She'd have

at the very idea of tainting her physic with alcohol!

My smilie library is second to none and renowned in at least a dozen forums! I think to date it numbers something like 400!

A certain sign of good breeding and good taste, no doubt!!! LOL

Hi Weezy and Jamie, We must all think alike. There's nothing I like better when I go out. A nice Gin and tonic with lime. How wierd is that. Never get restless legs after a few of those. On the serious side One small glass of tonic will do it for me. Amazing. Hope your both doing well. lizzie.

Hi rowdy, so nice to be in touch with people that know what we are going through. Yes I will take care of myself back at work. I work on a ward in hospital funny enough. As you can imagine. Not much sitting down allowed. At the moment knee still holding out though. On saturday night went out for a meal and actually wore heels for the first time. Thought I would pay for it on sunday. However all seems okay. Hope you are doing fine too. lizzie.

Hi Josephine, Lovely to get your reply. I had my tkn done at the royal Bournemouth Hospital. Dorset. I have to say I got really good treatment there. They used a spinal block on me instead of a general anesthetic. That was a bit differant. However Do let me know how you are doing. Lizzie.

Hi, Lizzie!!! Wish the weather here was warm enough to make a gin and tonic sound good....not quite yet. It's only in the low 30's today, but by Thursday they are predicting the low 70's!!! Whooo Hooo!!!! We'll be basking by the pool in our bikinis.....well, maybe not.....but warmer anyway.
