TKR Lina52's October TKR Thread

@Lina52,
I‘ve moved your post above out of the Monthly team thread. That thread is reserved for surgery date information. Having this monthly team thread allows members to see who else has surgery in the same month as they did. All other comments and discussions should take place in a pre-op or recovery thread, such as this one. Enjoy interacting with and learning from others who are on the same journey as you are, here in this thread.

Tell us all about yourself and your knee's journey. You will enjoy developing friendships with others on Bonesmart!

Hi Lina! Glad you're here. There are so many things our medical providers don't tell us about the long recovery period, and knowing what is commonly experienced really does help allay concerns!!!

@Lina52 - there is lots of sage advice and experience in this forum. I found connecting and reading all the information provided not only educated me but continues to support me. You are not alone!

:welome: @Lina52! So glad you joined us.

I think just about every one of us has struggled with anxiety prior to surgery. It's completely normal. In fact, if you weren't anxious, I'd be worried!

Congratulations your surgery date!

Since you have plenty of time to prepare, I will share BoneSmart's helpful pre-operative guide here.

Knee Pre-Op Guide
The following articles will help you be better prepared for what is to come:
Recovery Aids: A comprehensive list for hospital and home
Recliner Chairs: Things you need to know if buying one for your recovery
Pre-Op Interviews: What's involved?

Regardless of where you are in the process, the website and app My Knee Guide can help you stay organized and informed. The free service keeps all the information pertaining to your surgery and recovery in one place on your smartphone. It is intended to be a personal support tool for the entire process.

And if you want to picture what your life might be like with a replaced knee, take a look at the posts and threads from other BoneSmarties provided in this link:
Stories of amazing knee recoveries

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. So feel free to ask any questions you have about this surgery and recovery; our members will be happy to share their experiences with you.

Nerves are a very normal part of this surgery. It's no fun, but is another thing to deal with when getting ready for surgery. I was nervous right up to the moment I was put under in the OR. Keeping busy until the day of surgery helped; if I had any down time I'd think about the surgery, which would just make me even more nervous, so I kept as busy as possible.

The good news is, this time will pass, you'll soon be on the other side and on your way to taking your life back from a painful knee(s).

Which knee are you having done?

I am nervous about having a total knee replacement.
Me too. I try to tell myself that the majority of people posting about all the problems are really only a small portion of tkr done. I think the ones having an easier recovery don’t post as often. When is yours? Mine is Oct 2

To be completely honest, I was freaked out by the prospect of having a TKR. I know that does not come as a consolation. Recovery sucked! It was not an easy road but if I had to do it again, I would in a heartbeat!! Better days await

:SUNsmile:

My TKR is on Oct 19. I started doing guided meditations which helps for anxiety.

It definitely helped to talk to my surgeon and get as much info on the procedure.

I honestly wish I had found this forum before my TKR. Having the shared knowledge/experiences of many on here will put you ahead of the game. Be patient, do what’s right for you and enjoy those little victories along the way.

Sounds like mentally you are preparing well. Soon you will be on the other side:dogwalk:

This is so smart! I wish I had thought of doing it prior to my surgery (because I really was a mess). It will help you in recovery, too. :flwrysmile:

Best Wishes tomorrow, Lina!
Looks like you'll have a recovery buddy in, Dmcfad2, above.
Please join us on the Knee Recovery Forum when you're feeling up to it.
We will share some Recovery Guidelines and cheer you on as you are healing. Hope to see you there soon!
@Lina52
