One thing I havent read much of (understandably so, as I personally am a very OPEN person) is sex Post TKR. I guess the questions are, is there any limitations as what one can/cannot do, Has anyone lost their sex drive (doubt I will), and is one position more comfortable than another. This to me is a serious issue and I do not wish to offend anyone (hopefully put a smile on thir face).

Nuneez: I was able to drive a car after 2 weeks post op. On my 4th week Doctors check up, he said "do what you want and let your discomfort be your guide" So from there we started getting back to normal with things. I must admit, I was not that interested in sex, just recovering from the pain I was in. But it happened in time and now all is well!
My TKR was 11/20/07. Just as in any activity you engage in, BE CAREFUL! LOL. I know I didnt answer your question directly, just shared my experience.

PS: After going through the Physical Therapy, I did feel well enough to engage in many other activities. If the PT could bend and shape me they way they did, I could use my imagination for "other activities"

nuneez, I tried to bring up the subject before Valentine's Day, no one seemed interested.
There are no limitations, only what your pain level brings.
Be creative, makes it fun and sometimes a challenge, have some patience, but I don't think you can acutally "damage your knee". Just whatever you feel like. Alot depends on your partner as well.
Good luck and enjoy! Sure beats going to work all day.

I thought for a while I was going to have to hire my hubbie a.......um......hmmmmmmm....."companion". poor dude had it rough......wife all laid up with bum leg and roids the size of a compact car.....nuff said? nuff said!

Pattipoo aka: Hemi, for some reason when I look at your pretty smiling face, I cant picture you with Hemroids or constipation. Having a TKR is a humbling experience right?? LOL.
Remind me to tell you guys the story when the student nurse's came in.................................very humbling :(

I found the pain meds diminished my sex drive a lot. I feel badly for my hubby who is being a saint. I agree with others that you just let comfort be your guide. At some point you totally forget about your knee and pain, which is quite nice for a short while! And it does help a lot with the ability to get a good night's sleep. At 9 weeks I don't think we're totally back to normal, but we're getting there. Have to save some energy so planning ahead helps and you can always exchange the pain meds for a small sip of bubbly.

Be patient and maintain your sense of humor. That's my advice.

Had a guy over on the hip forum ask me this very question a few weeks ago! I ended up giving him some practical tips on being adventurous and trying new positions (bit different with a hip!) and he reports that he took my advice and it was very helpful.

Well I am afraid this is where I may differ than the rest. I know it is going to hurt and be uncomfortable but I can guarantee there is going to be some activity within a couple of weeks, I just know it. And as far as new positions, I'm listening.....If they haven't been done yet : ) But thanks the same to all the replies...o0o0o and PattiPoo, I had know idea what you meant with the roid thing.... So I guess I have something else to look forward tooo : (

I'm gonna keep it real for you.....just like I do with my 24 and 27 year old children.....the meds that you will be taking will turn your poo into CONCRETE....while you're in the hospital, they'll give you a stool softener every night. (fun topic, huh?)....GO TO THE STORE, TONIGHT, AND BUY YOU A WHOOOOOOOLE CASE OF THEM (or some kind of laxative) - GO ON - WE'LL WAIT FOR YOU TO GET BACK!!! Take them EVERY single day......eat lots and lots of fruits and fiber. I didn't take them like I should and got myself in a VERY, VERY painful situation.

Read the thread called "How do I put this delicately".....

Take my advice on this one - I KNOW what I'm talking about. Help me out, people!!!!!!!!

nuff bout that...
carry on....

Pattipoo is spot on. I had issues as well, but not as bad as hers because I too a prescription of Senna every day in addition to Citrucel and eating well. I still struggled a bit. I never had an "event" in the hospital but they let me come home anyway... think I went like 5 days and then thought I'd die! But I lived to tell the gruesome story. Listen to "Hemi", she knows whereof she speaks. No need to add this pain to the rest if you don't have to!!

I do not EVER want to be in that situation again. It was much more painful than my knee. My Dr. called me in a steriod cream that worked in three days.....but that was AFTER being violated with numerous fleet enemas and a roid as big as my thumb.....my Dr. wanted to drain it and I wouldn't let him......I tell you this, NuNeez, NOT to gross you out, but as a warning. Take your softener/laxative/prunes etc as religiously as you take your pain medicine. I take Senokot veggie lax. and eat prunes, raisins, apples EVERY day.

okay.....nuff about a middle aged lady's bum!! I won't bring it up again. (maybe)

She's 100% correct. Awhile back we had an in depth and comprehensive conversation about the subject My parents recommended prunes. I tried the tangy orange essence prunes and yep, they work. Word to the wise. Start with a small amount and work up.

The mind boggles!!

LOL.....we did go from sex to laxatives and Pattipoo's Hemis. When you think about it, the mind does boggle. But, it shows that we are working on our recovery, and our recovery includes more than our knees and that our 'bums" as Sharon Osborne calls her butt, is a very important part of our body! LOL.....sorry, I just needed to say something.
Love and Respects to all,

PS:

Should have added a smiley - I was only joshing!

You all talk about what ever you want to talk about. K?

I know you were Jose' I thought it was funny how it went from one topic to another....but when you think about it, one part is right around the corner from the other! LOL
Respects,

Ladies, I find that even if I am not feeling in the mood, mostly due to the influence of pain meds and exhaustion, my mind can be changed once things get moving, so give it a try with the understanding that it may not be a "go" for you every time. And be honest with your spouses about the impact of drugs, pain, etc. on your drive. My husband has been quite understanding and patient with me. Sometimes just knowing you are interested mentally but not ready physically can be very important.
