TKR Kygirl's Second TKR Recovery

The numb areas will heal on their own time, though sometimes some numb spots remain. No external stimulation is needed and you don't want to irritate them.

I had a troublesome numb area following abdominal surgery: It became hypersensitive for a while. After several years, I realized the hypersensitivity was fading. It's now normal.

Good that you're massaging the area to stimulate blood flow and nerve endings, kygirl!
I've read that rubbing different textures, such as soft fabric, rough towel and...cringe  even a brush to help retrain nerves. Light tapping or a TENS unit may help stimulate nerve activity also.

Regular movement, staying mobile, improves circulation which supports nerve healing, so walking and weight bearing activities.
Some topical treatments can help stimulate sensory nerves and reduce discomfort. If you're into supplements Vitamin B Complex is essential for nerve health and Omega 3's found in fish oil can support nerve regeneration and reduce inflammation. There is a lot of info to be found online that you can talk over with your OS.
Nerves heal slowly and full recovery of sensation can take months, or even a year so it's still early in the process for you.

It's wonderful news that this recovery has exceeded your expectations! I hope you have a lovely holiday season and wish you many blessings in the new year! :plugging-in-xmas-tree-smiley-emoticon:
