THR Kritterkiddo's THR Recovery

Day 34
Today is PT day. Going to curl up with a good book, a cat and a heat pad just before I leave.

One thing I value in life is when someone let's me finish my sentence, my story, or my thought without cutting me off or looking down at their phone, a sure sign that they aren't interested. And that is Okay for them to do, it is just a clear sign that I am not connecting and hey my time is valuable too so I end the encounter and get busy. No grudge held.
We get so much great info from this site. Wise counsel, history and tips. Encouragement and cheering up! Relating and joking.
The one most valuable feelings I get here at this site is that someone says "I hear you. I get you." and "I care about you".
Thank you!
All the best!

Week 5
Four more weeks of PT!
We are doing low reps of the basic exercises.
Yesterday she covered how to massage the scar properly to keep the fascia(?) from knotting up but I will need a refresher on that.

She is very strict about form with every single rep of each exercise. I am pronating in wi the operated leg and must consciously avoid that because that little wrong toe angle affects the hip muscles who need to rebuild properly. So much trauma had to be done that my brain is confused and must be retrained. The good leg helps with that, too.
When I do it right, there is no hip pain! And my hips do feel a bit more toned.

We talked about these pains in the backs of my hands and a sharp one through my left forearm. She said no more pushing off out of chairs and get a forearm strap.
Being 5'10" most chairs are low for me so either don't use them or build them up with pillows, she said.
Scootch to the edge, feet under butt, and arms in front, nose over toes then up.
Off to the chiropractor today to get my arms & hands checked.
Then over to the Pets thread!!
All the best!

This happened to me as well. I had been "double-stepping" up and down stairs for so many months before my surgery that it became "natural." Even as I recovered and was able to climb/descend normally, I would default to that double-step! It took months to undo that habit.

Isn't it amazing how our brains control our bodies!

@benne68 Really! It takes twice as long to get anywhere double stepping on stairs, but slow wins this race of ours!

I love that your PT really focuses on you doing things properly, including soft tissue work. Yep, that fascia layer is like a webbing covering all our muscles. It's kind of between the skin and the muscle and in more recent years they have discovered how important it is. When it knots up, it pulls on other parts of our body and eventually can lead to trouble in other places. Think about laying a t-shirt out flat on a table. Take on section and keep twisting it in a clockwise fashion. It creates many folds and wrinkles from all directions on the shirt leading to that knotted up area. From my understanding, that is what our fascia layer does when knotted and all those pulls are what could cause different knee, shoulder, back, etc. problems. Truly, it is amazing you have a PT who addresses how important that fascia layer is. :yahoo:

I'm so glad you have a good PT! I had a sheet of paper, yikes. I bet with all the work you're doing with good form you'll end up bring able to kick each day in the butt before the 4 weeks are even up :heehee:

yep I had that same sheet of paper before!!

Day 35
I was going to write as usual first thing this morning, but my head kept saying 'Got nuttin'.
But here I am, with something.
A lot o something!
2,925 steps today! A record for only Day 35! The most yet for my shiney new hip.
And, yes, it is talking back.
I wish I could say I hiked or walked somewhere impressive. Does Home Depot & Wal-Mart count? HD wasn't that much, and I rode a cart inside Wal-Mart.
So here's where I walked all those steps. In the Wal-Mart parking lot.
After people riding the carts to their cars. The first one I caught was for my husband who has mobility issues. Someone snagged the 2nd, 3rd & 4th cart. Then a guy came out the right door but rode all the way to the opposite back corner of the lot with me in hot pursuit (not.) I made it half way & had to stop & stand there, :sos:watching him disappear behind the parked cars. However, a Wal-Mart employee saw me & him & continued my quest for me!!:thankyou:
Being in two carts on a busy December Saturday we were always in the way but I have to say that every single body in the store was kind and patient with us.
Hip is getting whatever I know to do now, ice, rest, elevation, Tylenol, and tomorrow off!!
All the best!

Yeah, those parking lot steps can really get you, especially at this time of year. And most of those parking lots have a bit of a slant to them so water doesn't pool. You don't normally think about that though. Happy you're now home resting, icing and elevating. Taking tomorrow off sounds like a great idea.

What a challenge. I got a temporary handicap plate and don't always need it and sometimes need it but the spots are all full. Glad everyone was patient. And rest up the well used hip tonight. I have yet to break 2,000 steps as of yet. Soon.

Day 36
We went for fresh air & topped off my steps for the day at the normal 1,600. For the first time ever, i felt a bit wobbly on the new hip and held on to my husband's scooter. Lesson learned from yesterday. :bignono:
Very tired. Curling up with a cat.
All is well.

You are listening to your body and that's what is important. We sometimes want to finish a task and plow through it in pain only to pay the price at a later time.
I've been one of those early AM people my entire life. My GF used to make fun of me for having my house tidied up and a dinner plan by 9AM. And old habits are difficult to break.
Yesterday my son came for breakfast. He is ER nurse and his last 12 hour shift is Saturday into Sunday so he stops here for breakfast on Sunday. Eggs Benedict every Sunday. Asked if he wanted to switch it up but he said no way. Kitchen was a mess, got that cleaned.
Then started my Christmas baking for mailing to Texas. My brother and SIL live there and my oldest son and his family live there as well. I always do these spicy, salty sweet nuts and biscotti and 7 layer bars.
Started once my son left around 9ish. Finished 1PM and let me tell you my body (mostly my back) was not happy! I cleaned up as much as I could and headed straight for heating pad and couch! 90 minutes later finished kitchen. Now in the "old days" (before hip replacement), I would have soldiered through the clean up but now body says that's it and I listen!

Day 37?
Not a peep or groan out o my new hip today though I sat on a padded stool and sang for a two hour long Christmas event at our local retirement home.
Yesterday's icing and lengthy & deep naps I took seem to have given me peace in my joint!:) :-) (:
Hope you have peace in your joint.

"Peace in your joint" - I love this! Very appropriate at any time and especially in this holiday season! I think we need that as a smilie here :loveshwr:
