Hi,

Just curious -those of you who are further down the road of recovery, are you able to pull your knee to chest (laying flat). It seems as though my knee wants to go just straight up in the air, rather than coming closer to my face. I know I am still working on gaining flexibility back. Just wondering if anyone has been able to go bring the knee closer to you.

~Melissa

Good question M! I would like to know too, because I have not been able to get even close yet. I am hoping it's one of those things that will just come in time.

Well, if you're talking about getting knee to chest with leg bent, then yes, I can! :D

However, if you're talking about pulling extended leg closer to face (knee to nose) while lying on your back --no way! (Of course, I couldn't do that when I was YOUR age--ballet lessons or not! :hehe:)

I'm 8 months out, but actually could do this quite some time ago. I'll attribute that partly to a non-muscle-cutting/detaching anterior approach, and partly to relatively decent flexibility all my life.

The other night I tried something just out of curiosity: I stood next to the kitchen counter & tried to plop my extended leg up there while keeping the leg I was standing on straight. My hamstrings protested (A LOT!) but I did it! I was quite tickled . . . The flip side is that the next morning I felt like I'd been rolled over by a bus and walked somewhat like a crab! :hehe:

Bottom line--as fit, athletic and young as you are, you'll get there!, Melissa!

I'm the same as Renee, Melissa - can do it with leg bent, but can't, never have, and I'm sure never will do it with leg straight!!:D I think bike riding has really helped me with flexibility.

Hi all, You guys crack me up I am still laughing about plooping leg on counter .......... Now that is gutsy :wahey:! I am 7weeks (LTHR) and one of my new exercises were to bend my knee and bring up towards chest still cant do it good but I see my pt monday.

I have to say when I am feeling dumpy and blue there is always someone here that can make me laugh about the trials & triumphs of THR .

Thank you with all my heart laughing is the medicine.:rotfl:

god's blessing

Well never one to shirk a challenge so I tested it for you Melissa!

Yes with Knee bent but I think my tummy not my hip stops me from doing it with a straight leg.

I actually haven't noticed that I couldn't do it prior to this test so I would say I have been able to all along, but then I have always been flexible.

I think with fitness and youth on your side Melissa you will be able to do it in no time, and probably with your leg straight too!!!!!

Good luck and take care.

My OS is extremely cautious......he said I can only break 90-degrees if my knee is turned out, not in. For him to say that.....that means at 4 months we are still not out of the woods when it comes to risking a displacement. Not worth the risk!
Hey remember when all we wanted to do was to sleep on our side? We came a long way since then huh?

Hop

As the saying goes, a picture's worth a thousand words! So if the kitchen counter story made you laugh, the image should darn near leave you gasping! :D (And yes, that's the leg attached to the new hip that's "surfing" the counter1)

PR you look mahvalous dahling! I think you are ready for the Royal Ballet! Thanks for posting that .:p Hmmm...think I'll give it a try.

PRGal....now THAT'S a success story!!!

PR -you are so cute! What a great picture! You go girl :)

And yes, I meant pulling the knee in with a bent leg -I'm still unable to get it to my chest. Hopefully it will come in time.

So true Hop -we just wanted to sleep on our side and now we want to be able to do it all :)

OMG ,Wow wish I was that limber, how long ago did you have your hip replaced? Did it hurt to bring your leg down to floor? What an accomplishment. :thmb:

God Bless

Renee, do you KNOW how many of us are going to be trying that tonight??:hehe: And are probably going to regret it tomorrow!!:shk: Great picture BTW!

What happens if we get stuck???? (Only kidding!!!)

OK, OK, you guys! Here's the disclaimer:

DO NOT attempt this at home!

:D:D:D:D

Judles, planning ahead is a must in case you get stuck--like being within easy reach of a cabinet where you keep the olive oil. Then you can just use a splash & slide right off!

Trish, my new hip is 8 months old, and no, it didn't hurt to either put my leg on the counter or get it back down. Hamstrings (back of thigh) felt a BIG stretch, though.

Girls......what are we doing to our countertops???

:sct:I thought they were for making biscuits on but I seem to be wrong
