TKR knee stiffness two years post-op

I’m like everyone, love to read, couldn’t, napping all the time. I found myself laying in bed watching Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. It was 6 weeks before I read a book

I am 3 weeks and normally an avid book worm but as others have said just can not concentrate on reading just now ... I know it will come back so movie bi he watching for me too :)

I seem to be more easily confused since surgery.
I'm glad you mentioned this. I suffered the same "confusion" after both THRs. I don't see many members mention this but I guess it must be a side effect of all the trauma. The good news is that this goes away fairly quickly.

Being unable to tolerate tramadol I have got through to start of week 4 on paracetamol and ibuprofen. Cutting down ibuprofen now but definitely still need the paracetamol. Hope your pain levels are improving now x Icing and elevating workvwonders too.

I'm sorry you're having trouble getting the pain meds you need. My extended family is all in Albany and my sister has told me about that problem. I am very fortunate that I've been working with a pain specialist here in VA and she will help me if I need it. If you continue to have trouble with management, would your insurance cover a specialist like that? Just a thought.

I'm normally a reader but I learned after a surgery last year that I couldn't focus enough to read. I watched a lot of MASH! Talk about a show that did not wear well against the social change of the world. It was funny and comfortable when I was drugged and vague, but once I got smart again, I was kind of horrified by what used to be funny. lol

What kind of shows or movies do you normally like? I know everyone here has a favorite. lol. I think I'm planning to start with re-watching my favorite Stargate SG1 show, when it won't matter if I can't focus.

I have caught up with all my podcasts and don't seem to have the attention span to read which makes me sad as I am an addictive reader.

Seems to be pretty common. I found Grace and Frankie on Netflix and did well watching 1/2 hour shows. I’m at 6 weeks and actually am managing movies and books now. Sounds like you’re doing well but really sorry your Dr. is so unempathetic. Maybe he should have his knee done. I’ll bet he’ll change his mind.

Have a great day.

I love coming here and reading these posts, I feel folks here really "get it". What I don't love is how I feel today after PT two days in a row-major pain and swelling now. Won't do that again! Supposed to have PT 3xs a week and it was a scheduling issue for them so I went yesterday and again today. Not going again until tuesday which is also staples out day. Hope that goes ok, just rest, elevation and ice for me now until my poor knee calms down

If PT is causing major pain and swelling, why continue to go? You can choose not to do any PT at all, or you can decide to cut back, or change what you agree to do in PT. The decision is totally yours and no one has the right to choose your recovery path but you. Your knee will let you know what it's ready and willing to do, and it's your job to listen to it and make decisions based on how your knee reacts to those decisions.

I like movies that are silly lately and I seem to want to watch TV shows that are the same. I have been watching Superstore on Hulu and I find it is lighthearted. Good to hear that the attention and reading is not so uncommon to be worried about. I never thought about a pain management doctor, I am going to keep it in mind. Thanks and Godspeed!

We actually watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still" last night for fun. It was made in 1951 and we actually had fun watching it for some reason. I heard they did a remake a few years back, and also heard it was lame. But the original was worth the watch. That might be a good one for you to watch. It's hard to concentrate for a while after this surgery, so light and silly is the way to go.

If you have HBO watch Gentlemen Jack, it is a true story of Ann Lister. So well written

My Netflix watch list contains "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and something called 'Dumplin', both of which got multiple recommends from friends as very funny. I have no opinion yet, lol
I'm still reading. I have the latest Patricia Briggs which I have been saving for the tense last minutes, which I am now it. That's my plan for the weekend. While I'm still smart enough to read. lol

I am only a day behind you with my TKR! It sounds like each day is a wee bit better than the day before...baby steps, right?

Since this is my second TKR, I had a pretty good idea of how hard it would be to focus on reading or puzzles. So for about a month before surgery, I TiVo’d as many Big Bang episodes as I could, along with silly retro shows like Facts of Life and I Dream of Jeannie amongst others. My TiVo was quite full! It is much easier to watch the half hour shows during recovery...I am still struggling to keep focus on the more serious hour long shows. Those will come in a few weeks, lol.

I did the same thing, @snowdrop . I have a DVR that holds a couple of terabytes, and I had it loaded with stuff to watch. As a result, between that and my prime account, I never ran out of shows to watch while down.

@winemama think that's the next thing I'm watching.
I have done so much reading about her, Ann Lister was fascinating. There are some excellent YouTube videos about the woman who took 28 years to decipher her diary’s all 60 of them.

Thanks I'll look. Love getting the background.

going to check out Gentleman Jack, I have HBO until July 17th, went for one month. Thanks for all the suggestions. I can't deal with the political chaos that seems to be on 24/7 on TV so I am streaming everything possible. Question for all you veteran TKRs' out there. How long was it until you went up/downstairs foot over foot? I don't feel that unstable going down one foot at a time but I worry about my knee bend which doesn't much want to. I do feel the bonesmart philosophy of not pushing things, causing inflamation and decreasing inflamation is sound. I had PT 2 days in a row this week. The first session was not too aggressive, the 2nd more so. I just called and cancelled my back to back day next week. I am also going to get my staples out Tuesday. Not sure what that be like but can't wait for that shower. My sister did help wash my hair in the sink, what a mess that made

I'm just beginning to but not all the time. Still don't want to push it.
