I am scheduled for a knee replacement at the end of December. It is somewhat urgent because, besides arthritis and cartilage problems, I have been diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the femur at the knee which means the bone is slowly dying due to a lack of blood supply. Has anyone else had this problem and knee replacement? And, if so, how did it go and how long was your recovery?

:welome: to BoneSmart, glad you joined us.
Most members with AVN/osteornecrosis have it in their hip joint. For the most part they do well after THR.

Please post your surgery date, a moderator will add it to your signature for you. Having the exact date will help us properly advise you. Thanks!

Osteonecrosis Is not particularly common and won't won't result in any severe issues. The surgery and recovery will most likely be perfectly standard when compared to any other TKR. If there are any particular issues arising from it - such as bone loss - this can be easily remedied with bone graft.

@reeldove - How are you getting on with your preparation for surgery?
Please tell us what date you're having your knee replacement and which knee it is.

@reeldove
What date in December? And which knee?
If you tell us that, we can add you to the list of people having surgery the same month as you. That way, you'll see who your recovery buddies are.
