Today I'm whining. My knee hurts and has been bothering me since Saturday. I can't figure out why and just want it to quit! My husband and I started back with our physical trainer and we had a hard workout last Wednesday. I really pedaled the bike HARD in the sprints, but it didn't hurt during or afterwards. Then pain started on Saturday....kind of like the pain from some soft tissue swelling. But Aleve (which usually helps) has not worked. It was worse yesterday....it aches all around the knee - front and back and sometimes down the shin. Logic tells me it must be soft tissue swelling related to that workout. But why would it take so long to show up? How come Aleve doesn't help? Why does it ACHE when I'm sitting still? It even woke me up last night and I got up, took another Aleve, and actually put ice on the front and back of my knee joint. I haven't used ice in MONTHS!!! That helped some, but it still hurts today too. Whine, whine, whine!!! Thanks for listening.....I needed a shoulder to cry on. This Wednesday I will take it MUCH easier in our workout session.

Ahhhh, Jamie, I understand how irritating something like this is. I wish I cold tell you what it is but I can't. It might be the overdoing it during the workout but it seem like it would have been sooner.

I've still got ongoing pain in my 14 month old knee but mine is ongoing and not new like yours. My OS gave me a cortizone shot a couple of months ago and said if that didn't work then he'd do a scope. He said give it two weeks and it's now been two months. I really need to go see him. Ya think I've been putting the next trip off? hmmmm :D. To be fair, I have been taking care of some other health issues but I'll probably get back to him soon. Karen

I know what you mean, Karen. Sometimes it just seems I float from one doctor's office to another. It does get old and sometimes you just want to say "enough" for a while. I'm going to give my pain a week or so to go away. I'm thinking it took that long before to subside, so I'm trying not to think about things like - problems with the metal components.....or glue coming unstuck.....or all the other dumb things my brain can come up with as potential problems. The doctor did tell me that there is so little space in the knee that just slight swelling in the tissue can cause pain. And since that has been a problem before, I have to believe that's what's going on now. Thanks for taking time to write, though. It helps to know a whine is answered by good friends who understand.

Hi Girls, Me too, not with knee pain, but with the doctor rounds. Between Rhumy, Endo & OS, it gets old. I have a primary on paper, but I'm so highly monitored by all the others I haven't seen him in years. Actually, my feet/ankles went haywire. The last week they have been painful to walk. Those first few steps, that crippling pain like pre TKR. Then once I was up and moving for a minute or 2 they were fine. What a reminder. Don't really think I've over done. Yes i still could loose some weight but one day they are good and the next not? Matter of fact, the past 2 days they have been fine again. I'm thinking one of 2 things: 1. We just had a weather front go through, brought our first snow, or 2. I've been cutting a prednisone dose and as Beach knows, that can be rough. Idecided I was calling the Dr this week (Rhumy) and of course, as soon as I decide that, it gets better. Jamie, feel better. I'm planning on joining a local gym as a Christmas gift and your experience serves as a reminder that PT was a while ago and moderation is key.

I am with you guys on the constant Dr. visits. I have an apt every day this week except friday!!
It is difficult for me to focus on the right problem each day for the dr. apt!! I am seeing my primary care doc tomorrow to get the ok for knee scope for next week. My spine doc and I decided it is time to fuse my thoracic spine, so I will be back in a few weeks getting all the surgery clearances once again. I think they all have to be within 30 days. Then the endo testing to make sure my body can still make the amount of steroids for all the surgical stress.

The hip replacement was a walk in the park compared to the rest of this body's required maintanence!!!!

Oh Jamie! Did you not remember those posts where it was said complete recovery comes after 12+ months? I know you can tend to think, well what't the diff between 9 months and 12 but as you have now found, there is a LOT!

So yes, because there is so little 'free space' in the area of a knee joint, even a little swelling can feel like a whole lot more. My guess is this; the inflammation from your (over)workout took time to develop to its full potential. With the inflammation comes, of course, swelling, which causes pressure in the area. This exacerbates the inflammation and swelling which increases the pressure .....

In other words, it develops over time. So, it's back to the ice, the pain meds and even see a chiropractor to help get the inflammation down and your doctor to check there's nothing amis more than inflammation.

Next time, try to remember you had a major op this year!

Oh, Josephine....you always know just the right thing to say. Of course I saw the posts, but when you feel so good.....well, you know......it's a "duhhhhhh" moment.

I plan to give it a week or so and if it gets better (which it is a little today and I think it will continue) then I don't think I need to see the surgeon. In the past I have had soft tissue swelling. It felt the same, but just got better VERY slowly. I believe it will be the same this time too. I've learned my lesson, though.

Please let my owies be a reminder to everyone else out there to practice MODERATION even when you think you're fine!!!

Sometimes I feel like the Dog Whisperer! LOL!

My pain most certainly was the mad ride I took on the stationary bike in my workout a week ago. It is much better now. We went for our workout session again today and I took it MUCH easier....got the heartrate up with resistance, not pedaling like a mad woman. I'm hoping that the next few days bring no increase in pain and then I'll know I did the right thing. And I'll also know that it's okay to keep up with the workouts with my trainer. We really needed to get back to that habit!! 'Specially during the holidays!
Thanks to all who wrote to keep me calmed down and who listened to my whining. That's the blessing of this forum!!! Love you all!

I'm glad to hear it too, Jamie! And glad to know this forum serves the purpose for which it was created.
