Hi and Welcome!

We were all very nervous about our upcoming surgery, so you are not alone! Feel free to ask any questions you want, that’s what we’re here for.

Best Wishes!

Yes, by all means, if there's any particular concern please share it. That's what we're here for!

One possible stress reliever for that generalized anxiety is focusing on home preparation.

I precooked and froze favorite dinners.
I considered where I'd want to "nest" during the day (mine was a recliner; it could be a sofa) and set it up (I had a dresser top plus a small folding table) to accommodate things I'd want at hand: electronics, a snack and beverage, a pad and pen to help track meds and activity, etc. Also a snuggly throw and pillows.
I made sure my ice machine and electronics could safely plug in there.
Got my walker, walking stick, elevated toilet seat, and shower bench ready to deploy.
Made sure I had comfy pjs, housdresses, loungewear to live in for a few weeks.

My best advice is to have your support system ready to go. My favorite aids for recovery were my favorite "knee recovery couch" that I could get up from easily and sleep on if needed, my Lounge Dr for elevation, my ice machine for ice therapy, and stocking some favorite snacks a head of time. I also froze a lot of meals beforehand so I didn't feel the pressure to cook anytime soon.

Also---I'd stay off the Facebook knee replacement forums. They are so full of misinformation it's scary and sad. At least here you will get accurate medical information, and no one will tell you to "tough it out" or to "push through the pain." I get angry every time I check them out and just want to scream at some of the bad advice I see thrown around.

Hang in there, and ask us anything. We'll be here on the other side too to help you along, listen to any struggles, and just keeping up with your recovery.

We are here to help you. It's perfectly normal to be nervous, just don't focus on it.

You will quickly find that medication, elevation and ice are your best friends. I would keep crackers beside where I kept my medication, you don't want to take pain medication on an empty stomach. (Of course read the label and ask the surgeon.) I also kept a notebook and a pencil there also. That way I could document the time I was taking the medication, dosage, etc. Sometimes we forget or think we took something when we haven't. The notebook keeps that all straight for you.

You've got this. We are here to help you along the way.
