7 months post TKR. Took a spill. Surgeon took xray said everything is fine but knee aches and feels stiff which it did not before. Should I be concerned or could it just be achy from bruising?

Hi and Welcome to Bonesmart.

Since your surgeon checked it all out and is satisfied I think you can relax that it’s “just” soft tissue upset, though that can be pretty painful.

Even though it’s been 7 months I’ll leave you the Recovery articles all new members get.

Recovery Guidelines.
Each article is short but very informative. Following these guidelines will help you have a less painful recovery.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
don't overwork.
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this
6. Access to these pages on the website

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery.

While members may create as many threads as they like in the majority of BoneSmart’s forums, we ask that each member have only One Recovery Thread. Hello @Kingsbay - and :welome:

Please will you tell us the full date of your knee replacement and which knee it is, so we can make a signature for you? Thank you.

The knee replacement hardware is really tough and it's almost never harmed when you take a fall.
But, as others have said, the soft tissue bruising can take a long time to heal.

Treat your knee gently, give it some extra rest, and take Tylenol if necessary.
The aching will decrease gradually.

What people often don't realise is that when we take a tumble, our entire body is subjected to a jarring which, in it's delicate and sensitive post-operative state, is ill-equipped to deal with. This reverberates everywhere and results in a kind of jarring that gives a pain not unlike bruising. Just rest and let it all settle down. Some Tylenol will probably help it all to calm down.

My right knee underwent total knee replacement with conformis on Sept 18, 2019. Thanks for all the input it eases my mind

Thank you for your surgery date. I've put it in your signature now.

I had knee replacement surgery approximately 3 years ago with a conformis knee. I have fallen on it twice just in Grass not on cement it is not swollen it is not hot but it aches have I bruised something or done something worse

Most than likely your implant is fine, but your soft tissues are angry. There probably is bruising because of the fall. Since you aren't swollen or red, you are probably fine. I suggest you rest it until the aching goes away.

Is the surgery date on your signature correct? Did you have one replaced before having the one on your signature replaced? If you had your tkr in September of last year, then it isn't even a year old. Falling on your less than 9-month-old knee is bound to give you pain.

Are you unsteady on your new knee? If so, you need to be using a cane or other assistant device until you are more steady and secure from falling. Falling hurts!

You'll notice that I have merged your two threads together as we prefer that members in recovery only have one thread.

This is for three reasons:
1. if you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts others have left you in the old threads
2. it often ends up that information is unnecessarily repeated
3. it's best if we can keep all your recovery story in one place so it's easily accessed if we need to advise you.

Please keep all your questions and updates on this thread. If you would like a new thread title just post what you would like it to be and we'll change it for you

Correction right TKR was Sept 2018
