Good Morning,
I have had quite a week. Sunday AM I woke early to a tooth ache....... Right rear molar. I was fortunate and got in to see the dentist at 9:15 AM Monday. He took and x-ray and told me I have an abcess and need a root canal. Better before my June 18th surgery than following it....
I have an appointment for the root canal on Monday, June 9, at 8:30 AM. I will have the tooth restoration on Wednesday, June 11. I am on Penicillin (making me nauseous)and Tylenol 3. I have also been using a buckwheat and herb neck wrap as the heat feels good on my jaw.
I have the home visit with the PT tomorrow AM at 8:30, my PCP pre-op physical at 1:15 PM on Friday.
Sunday, my husband and I are going to bottle the batch of German Riesling wine we made in April at www.incredibrew.com
The "batch" makes 28-29 750 ml bottles.
The root canal is Monday morning and the tooth restoration is Wednesday morning. Thursday the 12th is my pre-surgical visit with the OS and pre-surgical testing at the hospital.
Phew! The surgery will be here before I know it!
If you got this far, thanks for reading.
Best,
Crystal

wow... for sure just what you did NOT need...

Be sure to take good care of yourself these two weeks.... eat healthy, drink lots of water, pamper yourself and try to get some rest. Your body has a lot of hard work to do and much to heal from coming up.

Take care

Thanks Beachcomber. I just wish I could get a good night sleep. My knees I had under control between the 2 Aleve I take nightly and 2 more daily, and the magnetic therapy I am using. I wear a magnetic necklace and an ankle bracelet on each ankle and also use a rotating magnet under my knee joint for 10-15 minutes in the afternoon and the evening before bed. It helps greatly!
I have read how the meds have made some of you nauceous post surgery. The nausea was bad yesterday, and I am drinking milk today in hopes that it will keep it at bay. I just can't wait to get the tooth taken care of......
Rest will have to come after the root canal I fear ..........
I am still working (caring for 6 children daily; 2 ~ 1 year old boys, a 3 year old girl, 2 ~ 4 year old girls, and a 5 year old boy) daily between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM. I am wiped out at the end of the day.

I second Beach's comments!

Sending you lots of cyber-sympathy and positive thoughts...hang in there! The lead up to a TKR is busy enough without your added burden of the tooth, so please try to be as gentle with yourself as you can!

Weezy

Crystal, at least the need for the root canal came now and not after surgery. That would have been a whole different deal while you were trying to recover! Your life is such a whirlwind right now, but that will help the time pass quickly until your new knee life begins. I'll be thinking about you each day and hoping you are doing okay. Hang in there!!!! And know that you can always come to us on the forum when you need a little extra love and support.

You know, Ship, it might be a good idea to ring your OS and let him know that this has happened. As I recall, one of the admission questions (in the UK) is 'have you had any dental treatment in the past 6 weeks?'

I'd hate for you to get to the hospital and find they won't do you yet because of that root canal work.

I was asked that question also, Can't remember if it was 4 or 6 weeks. I did get my teeth cleaned prior and it was before the "dentist time" window, so I was OK.

Didn't the same exact thing happen to Kath a few months back between her TKRs? She got the antibiotics and the root canal and they went on as scheduled with her second knee...

good luck!

( I have my first post-KR dental visit next week and just got my antibiotics to take. 6 500 mg pills an hour before and 3 more afterwards. That's a blast of antibiotics for sure!)

I'm allergic to the usual antibiotics, so I have to take what I had in nthe hospital with no problem, Vancomyicin or a relation of. Doc's office said it is pretty expensive. gulp! oh well, cheaper than dead or joint infection.

Hi Josephine,
I finally got a reply from the OS office when I made a second call at the end of the day today. Having the root canal will be just fine as long as it is not infected when I reach my day of surgery for BTKR. It feels so much better already and if I take a good regimen of antibiotics after the root canal too, I should be fine.
So not a problem regarding the BTKR! Sigh.... What a load off!! So, hopefully, things will go on schedule.
Thank goodness because I have done so much scheduling of vacation days, personal days, my clients having their back up people for my time off, it would have been awful if I had to change it!
My PT came today for my first home visit to check out my home lay-out and all is good. I had my ROM checked and I am at 0 and 135 on both legs. She was very pleased... so was I!
Best,
Crystal

Iknow what you are feeling as I had the same problem last year. I went nuts over the weekend and then saw the dentists on Monday. Up here in Vertmont there are only 8 endodontists around, the ones he used 1 was booked for 2 1/2 months and the other about 6 weeks. Luckly there was a cancellation and I was able to get an appt. in a week.

Once I starred on the antibiotics I felt better and the root canal went just fine. I just had a year checkup with him and all was well

Simon,
How did your surgery go? Are you home now or are you in rehab? Just wondering.
Best,
Crystal

Thank you so much for your prayers and good thoughts and vibes you are sending my way.
Just reading
your e-mail regarding my "cape" made me laugh out loud!
Last Friday I had my PCP pre-surgical physical. I am A ~ OK. BP was 112/60. Resting heart rate normal. EKG normal. So, that was good!
Yes, I do have a house full of preschool children daily between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Currently there are:
2 ~ 1 year old boys
1 ~ 3 year old girl
2 ~ 4 year old girls
1 ~ 5 year old boy

Tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM I have a root canal on my bottom right rear molar. I have closed the child care business for the day, and all the parents have made other arrangement for their care for tomorrow. I live an hour away from the dental surgeon's office, so I must commute down there in the morning. The root canal procedure will be 2.5 hours. My dentist told me the toughest part of it will be keeping my mouth wide open all that time! The penicillin has done it's work, because I no longer am in pain from the tooth. I even have been able to eat regularly for the past couple of days. The dental surgeon will put a post in the tooth so my dentist can do a tooth restoration on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM. My husband is coming home from his job, to take over my job for about an hour and a half. He will start the children on their lunches (packed by parents).
Thursday, I have closed the business for the day too, as I meet with my OS @ 9:20 AM for my pre-surgical visit and have my pre-surgical testing at the hospital scheduled for 10:30 AM. Hopefully it will all go well!

Starting July 16th I will add 3 more children to my group (1 ~ 6 yo boy, 1 ~ 7 yo girl, and 1 ~ 9 year old girl) to make a total of 9 children daily.
I will be "closed" between the 18th and the 29th. I will reopen the business for children to be here all day on June 30th (12 days post op). I will have another adult here to care for the children while I work on caring for me!
I truly have planned this out so I will be able to rest and recuperate from the BTKR.
I do have a "daily schedule" set up for the children. They will be spending quite a bit of time outside playing in the yard and on the "play porch". The meals will be eaten in the kitchen and the children who nap will be in the living room with me napping in the afternoons between noon and 3:00 PM daily. If you want to take the time to "visit" my home, check out my business website at: broken link removed: https://crystalskinnerchildcare.com/

Take the time to check out the photos and descriptions of the Outside, Inside, & Play Porch. I really do have lots of patience!
Thanks again,
Crystal

Went to the oral surgeon today for the root canal. Was sitting in the office filling out my new patient clipboard form when the phone rang. It was the oral surgeon calling from the middle of the US! His plane got caught in the bad storms in the middle of the country and he did not make it back for his appointments today. So, I have been rescheduled for tomorrow. All my well laid plans, right down the tubes.......
So, I will do a repeat of today tomorrow for my root canal.
Best,
Crystal

Had my root canal today. It started at 9:00 AM and was not over until 1:30 PM. I had my mouth open for 4 hours! Thank goodness it finally was over. I am a little sore, not too bad. He was very thorough and took 4 X-rays during the procedure. I am hand carrying the report and returning my dentist x-ray tomorrow. At 10:30 tomorrow morning I will have the tooth reconstruction and hopefully will have no complications and have this ordeal behind me. I am still on the Penicillin and should be done with it in the morning. I can take pain medication tonight as I start my weaning of Aleve, Tylenol, etc. tomorrow.
I see the OS on Thursday along with having my hospital pre-surgical testing. I hope it all goes well!
I work with the children tomorrow and Friday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week. Wednesday is Knee Day!
Best,
Crystal

Crystal,
If you need pain medication tomorrow due to your tooth---- you are not necessarily unable to take it..... unlike NSAIDS which can cause additional bleeding.... I don't think *all* the pain meds have implications on next week's TKR. So if you need pain relief I think you can request to be able to take something rather than be in pain from your dental procedure. I was taking oxycodone ER prior to my KR and my OS had me continue that right through both my surgeries last winter.

Good luck!

Crystal I Have No Doubt You Are Going To Do Really Well With Your Btkr. You Just Seem To Be One Of Those Can Do People And Best Of All You Don't Let Things Stand In Your Way. I Am, Personally, Still Amazed At All You Are Currently Doing And You Have To Be In A Lot Of Pain. Will Keep You In My Prayers. Rowdy
