I got called to jury duty last month and my doc wrote a note saying that I could not do it---could not sit for hours during a trial.

Today I got a note that says I have to be available for jury duty from Sept to March. Now, when can I sit for up to three hours without the knee aching.

I still remember the ache from the one hour car trip. Have any of you served and how long after the tka?

Since you hike, bike and all for so many miles you should be able to sit. Plus you don't have to do it for 3 hrs straight. They allow the jurors to get up when needed. From your post 3 hours should not be hard for you as for as you have come. Just let them know when you need to get up. Also, they may not even pick you.

You are right, I can do everything but sit still. So, If there is a trial, I can shift around and stand up when I need to do so? right now, I can sit for about 10 minutes and then I stand up for a while. I have trouble sitting to begin with---hate the thought of having to listen to a bunch of **** in a trial. But, I cannot sit and not move for any length of time at all.

But, as long as I can shift around lots and stand up when I need to do it, I am fine with jury duty.

Just say you think they are guilty,,,,,,,,,ok next juror to pick,,lol

Hi! I just finished jury duty for the month of July here in Alaska. I am a year out so no worries. On top of that it was an easy month. We have to call in at night to see if we need to show up. Well... they excused the first week around july 4th for me since my dad was coming to visit and after that I called in as told and out group didnt actually have to show up until this past Monday (27th) I was there for the morning and ended up being kicked from the jury pool due to the nature of the case. We had LOTS of breaks and occassions to stretch and stroll. I was home inthe house by 2 pm that day after an hour and half lunch from 11:30 - 1. Then when we called in this Tuesday night we were told our services were no longer needed for this month. So... I finished. Now granted I am in the state of Alaska but our trial court system handles an area the size of West Virginia. So.... if you listen to the media we are alla bunch of hillbillies up here but after meeting the others in the jury pool the media would fall off its high horse knowing who really lives up here. Ooops --- I digress. I say do it and get it over with. You may have a slow month or get excused based upon the case. it kills a month for long term planning but as the jury clerk told us.... it really is our civic duty and we should be proud to do it and live in a country where you are presumed innocent until proven guilty and deemed so by a panel of your peers.

Good Luck!
Marianne

If I were a year out, I would agree with you--but I am 10 weeks out from tkr. So, I cannot sit in one place-__I shift constantly. also, after 15 minutes of sitting, I have to stand up and move a little---

My friends think I am a mental case, but really, it is uncomfortable to sit still for me in the best of times, but really, it is impossible now. If I knew I could stand up whenever I need to do so, it would be okay, but I don't want a judge yelling at me to sit.

Kelly....all you have to do is TELL them....once you're there, I'm sure you will have your jury duty postponed......for sure! :)

How in the world do you sit on a bike for so long? Is it your knee or back of your legs that bother you.
I take grandson /s to movies and sit through over 3 hours, but I don't bike as long or do the hiking, it is just to hot here and I find that boring.

When I bike, my legs are constantly moving!! As long as I am moving, I am fine. I went to the Harry Potter movie, but could not sit through it--stood in the back for a while, finally left early. Moving is so much easier than sitting or standing for me.j

My knee aches when I sit---I put it up, take it down, etc. Just give me a hiking trail and not a couch!!

That won't hold up in court, unfortunately, Ski!! :)

Ski
All kidding aside you need to talk to your doctor about that. You should be able to sit as for out as you are for a fairly long time. At least 2 hrs or so.

Harry Potter was a good movie but not as good as the past ones.

Just say you believe in capital punishment and believe that people who abuse children should be shot!! That will get you out in a heartbeat!

Oh geez Barb lol.....Yea that will do it......I do agree with you though....I watch court TV sometimes and the jurors are falling asleep...lol,, Judles...lol
Dont like Harry Potter ...I know I just cant sit thru that.......way to long of a movie....Anything longer then 1 hr.. My attention span is terrible...

She'll just be thrown back into the jury pool for another upcoming case!!!! :
