The few days leading up to the date are the worse.....the week of surgery is kind of a blur for me and the second and third weeks have been a little better each day. I hope you have a positive recovery as I have had for the most part.....so far.

Here is a copy of the recovery guidelines to help you prepare for your surgery on Tuesday.
The articles are short and will not take long to read.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.

4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

6. Access these pages on the website

The Recovery articles:
The importance of managing pain after a TKR and the pain chart
Swollen and stiff knee: what causes it?
Energy drain for TKRs
Elevation is the key
Ice to control pain and swelling
Heel slides and how to do them properly
Chart representation of TKR recovery
Healing: how long does it take?

Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

There are also some cautionary articles here
Myth busting: no pain, no gain
Myth busting: the "window of opportunity" in TKR
Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds

Thinking of and praying for you today~ After my TRKR a few years ago, I learned to constantly remind myself that, 'This too shall pass'! You've got this!

Its day 4 and the pain level has changed for the better. I try to walk up and down the hallway. Im waiting for a leg elevator i ordered from Amazon to help with the swelling. Sleep
Isn’t happening. I try to sleep in small increments when my body allows. I hope it improves with time.

I’m glad your pain is better, and short walks are good.

Sleep will improve, but unfortunately, it’s going to take a while.

Well im 2 weeks out. My PT is scheduled to start dec 11. Im still on a walker My knee is bending but not alot. I’m still swollen and bruised. I had a follow-up 8 days out and they told i was textbook. I have to keep my leg straight so I’ve been in a recliner since i got home. Fortunately the pain has turned to ache so I’m happy about that. My Tylenol therapy has stopped. My aspirin is still
Another 2 weeks. I’m frustrated but i guess I'm getting there slow and steady!!!
