Hi,
I'm scheduled for right hip replacement on January 13th. I found this site very helpful when I had my left hip replaced four years ago. You would think I would be ready for this, but I am still nervous. It is really just the idea of all the precautions again for three months. I am an active person with a ton of responsibilities. Unfortunately these responsibilities are physical in nature, so there aren't too many people that want to step up to help. The other issue is that I am teaching virtually at the moment and I'm not sure if I will be able to continue doing that after the surgery. I believe Administration feels I should be able to do so, but they may be in for a surprise. During the first hip replacement, I had the surgery done in the late summer and only missed a month and a half of school. I guess, I will see what happens.

Hi,
Good luck with your surgery. What precautions are you talking about for three months. My doctor told me the 90 degree precaution would be for 6 weeks, unless I heard incorrectly. What other precautions are there, besides not crossing your legs, which I can't do now anyway. I'm curious what else there is.

Hi, I wish I could say I am on the other side. My surgery was postponed due to a pre op blood work issue. My platelets were too low. For the last five years I have been running under 150,000. In August for my yearly physical I was 113,000 and for my pre-op blood work, I was 109,000. My doctor felt it would be better if I see a hematologist prior to getting the surgery since there is always a risk of blood loss. I'm just hoping it is nothing major and I can get it solved. I am on a medication that will lower platelets, but the prescribing doctor said that it is a rare side effect and the dosage is minimal. He doesn't believe that is that cause. I guess I will wait until my appointment with the specialist.

As far as the precautions, I am having the posterior approach. So yes, I am unable to cross my legs, sit lower than 90 degrees, sleep with that stupid wedge tied to my ankles and not attempt to bend over and pick anything up off the ground. It's just a pain in the butt. (literally)

So sorry you are having to wait....
I'm sure you are very frustrated.
Hopefully they come up with a way to clear you for surgery.:fingersx:
The restrictions post-op will be temporary and saying bye bye to hip pain will make it all worth it.
Hope today is a good day...
