Jo, here's a question for you on ROM more than a year after surgery.

Is it possible to try and bend your knee too far when you are this far out? As I posted in another ROM thread, today I found myself kneeling with my shins flat on the floor. I leaned back and was surprised at how far back I could go....I almost was sitting on my calves. But there was a point I reached where my knee hurt if I tried to bend more.

If I take this as a stretching exercise, can I push downward even though it hurts and not do any damage? I'm wondering if I worked at it, whether I might be able to completly sit on my calves in that position.

I guess a logical question might be "why would you want to do that?".....don't know....just seemed like it might be a good thing to work towards as long as I don't hurt anything.

Jamie Jamie Jamie,
Being the gentlemen I am,, let me get you a chair. There is no way I would let you sit on your calves. Sheesh, what were you thinking? You save them knees for cage dancing.

Clunker before my knee surgery I did sit on my calves.

Jo Thanks for getting the adds etc off so quickly

You mean after you were at that party right?
Not on purpose did ya??:hehe:

Just joking Pat,,how are ya?

Yeah, Clunker....we want to get our old groove back!!! As long as we don't hurt these new knees, of course!

My other OS had told me not to squat. He said it was stressful to the knee and could be risky for the meniscus ....I guess he meant in older natural knees.

What a lovely question! Of course you can't bend 'too much'. Before you had the new knee put in, you'd know that was possible, wouldn't you! Well, the same applies now. Do what ever you want and feel capable of doing. If it hurts a bit, no biggy. If it hurts a lot, don't do it again until you've made the smaller steps first and built up to it.

You'll not hurt the implants nor cause them to loosen.

Thanks, Jo. My logic told me this was the case, but those old fears of the unknown sneaked in the brain. I think I'm going to work on this more. Obviously, I'd been stretching with my activity and not even realizing it!
