I still feel like a fraud to be honest. Long periods without pain have always given me doubts over whether this is right or not, but alas here we are

I'm booked in January 9th (this Wednesday lol)

    Any advice?

Go for it! The sooner you have your THR - the easier the recovery. Those of us who waited too long learned the hard way. Limping around in pain for years impacts many other areas and trying to correct bad habits post THR is very difficult.

Believe me, give the current state of the NHS you would not be scheduled for surgery if it was not needed. Get this done and get on with living!

I started fillling it in a couple of years back when i first arrived on this site. I think for me, it didn't make much sense as I can literally do all of it with ease on one day, and maybe even for weeks at a time, but then if i do something silly in the gym or it becomes aggravated for some reason, then i can do none of it.

I had my THR in Hertfordshire on 23 October - I had very bad arthritis triggered by playing a lot of squash. Two years before the op I was still pretty mobile but it steadily got worse and I needed a new hip badly. I am now much more mobile and can walk much faster than I could in the months pre op. I am very glad I had the op - my only regret is that I did not push to get it earlier.

I thought I would be very nervous but found the hospital staff so reassuring and although it is a big op it is routine and performed on people much less fit than I am. The anaesthetist was great and gave me a spinal with heavy sedation. I did not know anything about the op and woke up in the recovery room. The pain control was excellent and I did not have excessive pain at any time.

I was booked in for four nights (standard at my hospital) but was discharged after three as I was making good progress.

My only mistake has been to overdo it from time to time. I am now progressing well but it is a long road to getting fully fit again - I am not expecting to be back to peak condition for a year or so muscles have a lot of recovery to do.

    Good luck for next week.

Volatile, we're sharing the same operation week. I don't think you're a fraud. Everyone says, or often says, you know when it will be time...or so it was said to me many times. I don't look at it as fortunate, but my hip just got/gets steadily worse. I wish I would have had some periods of being pain free; they would only come in dreams at night. Although, the last one was where I was jogging, but with a limp. Will look forward to reading how your recovery goes.

I feel as though I have been given decades of a stronger, healthier life...with hip replacement.
I don't even think about my "new hips" most of the time.
Better to do this now and get on with life.
    You've got this @volatile
