Had my Right TKR May 20, 2022. Scheduled to
have left done Feb 6, 2023. R went very well. Praying left will go well also. I’ve been in PT continuously. First for knee and then for lower back. Two years ago had spinal fusion L2,3&4 and have had muscle spasms in
Lower back so was hoping PT would help. Now hoping continued PT will help me be better prepared for Right TKR. L knee has not been too painful but being bone on bone I know surgery is in my future. Want to get it done and behind me.
Anyone out there suffering from muscle spasms
In lower back? Muscle relaxants don’t seem to help. Getting PT and deep muscle message in hopes of getting some relief.
Thanks

@Jaks Welcome to BoneSmart!

I have chronic lower back issues. So sorry you are suffering as well. Spasms are often a result of changes in your gait as you try and say off the damaged joint. I did find specialised PT and deep muscle massage helpful. Hamstring stretches from a seated position were also helpful.

In terms of PT helping you get ready for TKR - I hope you are taking the gentle approach. Aggressive PT is counterproductive post TKR. In fact many of our members do not have PT and recover their ROM just fine.

Spend some time in the recovery forum. Lots of tips from our members currently in recovery.

Hello and Welcome to BoneSmart. Thanks for joining us!
Muscle relaxants don’t seem to help. Getting PT and deep muscle message in hopes of getting some relief.
This may sound simple after your attempt for relief through muscle relaxants, but consider Magnesium along with, Jaycey's, great recommendation of massage and hamstring stretches.

Magnesium supports the following:
Bone health
Healthy blood sugar
Cardiovascular health
Muscle relaxation and nerves
Promotes healthy sleep (falling asleep and staying asleep)

An article on Magnesium -

I hope whatever you try brings the desired result soon.

I have a bad scoliosis and my lower back can get very painful. I found an excellent chiropractor and now go 2x week down from 3.
Its helped to the point of being pain free.
My SI joint flares a lot and chiro has helped that immensely.

Only a few days to go until your Left TKR. I hope you’re ready to roll.
Please join us on the Knee Recovery forum once you’re back home and feeling up to it. I look forward to following your healing journey.
Best Wishes!
