In the monkey vein of thought... I climbed in bed last night and had my right knee bent a little. Did the usual check to see if the incision was still there and still numb (come on you all do it) and I felt this huge indent. I freaked. It felt like a break. Why was there this separation in where my bones are? Hubby, hubby, check this! Is it broken? What did I do to my knee? He feels it and says "Jen that is your knee cap. When they fixed your knee they jacked it back up where it is suppose to go." "So that is normal" I asked him. WOW I have a knee cap. Guess my swelling in that knee has gone enough that my knee cap has returned. Before my TKRs it was so swollen i couldn't feel it and after from healing the swelling continued. Too wierd. And come to think of it, I crossed my leg the other day. It wasn't comfortble enough to keep crossed, but it bent upand over enough to do. 5 Months later and still making progress and seeing change! Still have the monkey on the left knee though.

Jen, I guess you and I are a couple of the "lucky" ones who are "swellers." Although my swelling is probably not enough to be called a monkey knee, it still hurts some of the time. I wish it would go away faster, but the doc just told me yesterday to be patient. So I guess we just need to be...

I am happy to hear the swelling is down in one of your knees, though!!! Great!!!

That made me laugh out loud! When I lost a lot of weight, two things like that happened to me: I suddenly found my mattress had lumps, painful lumps except I eventually realised I could feel my hip bones! And I developed this hole in my hand! For the first time ever, I could see my anatomical snuff box! (Medical term that!)

Josephine, now THAT'S a crazy term. Wonder where it came from? I never have heard it and (ha!) since I'm still not as thin as I once was, I don't have such a thing on my hand.

Because in the times when it was the thing to take snuff - 17-18thc, it was supposed that the gentlemen, on taking a pinch of snuff, would put it in that depression before offering it up to their noses to be sniffed in! But isn't actually true!

(And neither do I anymore! LOL!!)

I think it probably came from the days when dipping snuff and snorting it was common, they would put the snuff in that little indentation in that part of their hand and snort from there. Guess it would be called a coke box in todays society. I remember having an old aunt who snorted snuff in that manner, she, also, had a hearing aid, the kind that looked like a horn, she stuck one end in her ear and you yelled into the larger end. Not a tooth in her head but she loved music and was in the middle of everything. I remember thinkng of all my relatives she was by far the most interesting. Rowdy

Cool memory, Rowdy! Everyone should have a few characters in their family. Otherwise life would be soooooo dull.

Glad you got a laugh Jo. I had the hip thought too. Is that your actual hand?

Can I say, that little indent on the hand grosses me out somewhat. OOOPPPsss just did!
