and I feel like I'm doing OK. My home therapist just left, releasing me to outside PT beginning on Friday. My rom was 87 today (hurt like hell), but he pushed me on. I have moved from the walker to a cane now. Pain is under control most of the time - I've dropped down to 2 pills from 3 of Dilaudid every four hours along with some Tylenol. I'm doing the 13 stairs once up and down each day for a shower and sleeping. Wish I were sleeping better through the night, but it sounds like I am getting more than most of you so I feel fortunate. I see my doctor on Wednesday morning to have my staples removed - will have more to report after that.
I hope this is encouraging for those of you still looking at surgery. I feel I have been very lucky so far.

Cass, you are doing really great!!! Keep up the good work and you'll be racing around in no time!

Keep up the great recup,Cass! You'll be doing even better once those staples are removed! You take care now!!!:wink::wink:

Wow sounds like your doing at great job......im really happy for you.........keep us posted..........be proud of yourself.............)

Sounds like you are doing great! I was so glad to get those staples out! I'm 3 weeks tomorrow, and feeling better every day - (at least now that I got out of the house for a while !!!!)
Keep it up

Cass, now is not the time to cut back on your pills. Now is the time you need them the most. Be kind to yourself and take what the doctor has prescribed. He knows best!

Thank you, Jo. I appreciate your thoughts for me. I do not like being so groggy all the time if I can tolerate the pain.
I will discuss this pill issue with him on Wednesday and let you know what he thinks about it.

Good job Cass! I'm 3 days ahead of you, had my staples out today.

Great job Cass. I wish I were already on the road to recovery. My TKR was scheduled for Nov 3rd but I will have to wait until at least January. You are doing terrific!:thmb:

But you're missing the point that the trade off is obstructing your recovery. Everything's a trade off. You may feel you can tolerate the pain but your body won't and will react negatively to it with swelling and stiffness. It cannot progress with the healing and it will not allow you to progress with the PT. That's why I always feel concerned about people who do that. This is not going to go on forever and you should tolerate the grogginess in order to maximize your recovery.

Do have that discussion, Cass. There are many, many choices available for pain control and if those pills make you uncomfortably groggy, your doc can try something else. It took me three changes in meds to find the thing that worked best for me.

Great to hear your doing so well I cant wait to get my staples out next Thursday.

Love Karen xx

CASS: I was on dilaudid while I was in rehab, it made me sleepy and groggy too. I'd have a hard job staying awake after I took it. I just told my doctor that I didn't like the way it made me feel and he switched me to percocets, and they don't make me feel like that. There are so many other druugs you can be put on, just ask.
Hope that helps!

Cass! Hope ypu are feeling better! Better to be a little groggy at this stage then in pain! Feel good! ((:0)
