Hello all. Went to Dr yesterday and got the okay to have both knees replaced in June. I have to get through a nice Florida vacation on the beach first and my son's wedding. Then I'll do the dirty deed! If there are any words of encouragement about having bilat done, I could use them! I was told my blood thinner would involve a daily injection. I think that is creeping me out worse than anything. I'm not afraid of being cut, but don't like a teeny tiny needle. Go figure! So, I guess I won't have much to contribute until afterwards, but you can bet I'll be reading daily.

Turtlelady.....with all you have going on, the time will fly by and you'll be here with us in recovery. Since I only had one knee, I guess I'm not much help on the bilat part, but it sure sounds like the folks here who HAVE had it done are doing really well! You will be in my prayers as the time gets closer!!! Have so much fun on your vacation!!! Warm sandy beaches sound perfect to ease you into your new knees! ....Jamie

The doctors have an option of prescribing blood thinner pills if a patient is uncomfortable with needles. Maybe you should talk to him about that. I took the pills for only two weeks and that was it.

When is the wedding and the trip to Florida? I really need to find me a warm, sandy beach before my next surgery too. I need to find it tomorrow after the last week of work that I've had!

Turlte lady, glad you got a date fixed. Relish every moment of your vacation and enjoy the wedding. Jenn is a prime example of a great recovery from Bilateral knee surgery. Read some of her earlier posts. Perhaps she will be around soon.

Make sure you stay with us here. Sue

Hey - good for you.

But as for that injection, just think of diabetics who have to inject themselves daily for the rest of their lives! Many of them were not too keen (to put it mildly!) but quickly grew accustomed to it. I remember when my sister (another one!) was first diagnosed. She had the toughest time using the little finger stabs to do her blood sugar checks. In the end I had her sit at the table and just keep doing it over and over until she was okay about it. And it worked. She is now so laid back you'd think she was applying nail varnish! It's all a matter of familiarity.

Thanks for the encouragement about the needle phobia. I guess diabetics do have it tough, and here I am being a big sissy, After all, it can't be any worse than changing all those poopy diapers when our kids were babies, and we got used to that (I think)!

We'll be in Cocoa Beach May 14-28, then my son's wedding in June 8. These knees may be a-hurting, but that won't keep me from sitting my behind on a beach chair for a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy reading all the daily posts. You guys are a great group.

Sharon
