Hi All,

I think I initially posted this on the wrong forum and hopefully I am not screwing up the moderators attempts to keep the list organized. If so I apologize.

I am a member of the ITB club and as a variant, also have developed pes anserine tendinitis. Taken together, it's creating a challenge to my recovery. My left knee is doing fine, I had BTKR in Dec, 2008, but I have been having difficulty with the right one since the beginning of May.

Has anyone had this combination and what has your experience been?

I seem to have developed a "thumping", primarily on the medial side when I walk. My PT and OS do not think that it is an impingement, so I have the patella tapped, do lots of stretching, ice, a restricted exercise regime and am back to PT twice a week.

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated if any of you had similar difficulties. BTW, x-rays indicate that the prosthetic is fine.

Thanks so much in advance and sorry to Jamie and Jo for the posting mistake.

So nice to meet you Bennet!
Dang you talk just like someone who knows all this medical stuff. I have no idea what a ITB club is or what a Variant is. Now tendinitis I know what that is but you lost me with Pes Anserine. I am sorry that I am no help. But never fear there are some smarter people here that might be able too.

Yes, Welcome, Bennett! I'm a hippie and hope you feel better SOON....bottom line!!! :)

Welcome. That can be painful, do hope you can get some releif.

I suffer from the IT Band also, but not pes anserine tendinitis.

The IT band is enough.

Bennet,

I have been dealing with itband problems for ten years. Since my ACL reconstruction.

So, if the quad is weak, the IT Band begins to take over some of the job of stablizing the knee. When you make your quads and hamstrings stronger---it is difficult to make the IT band settle back down and give up!!!

I had my knee replaced on May 13. I have no pain in the knee, but the it band---particularily where the quads and hamstrings attatch to it is very tender--and it feels "thicker" there. I am still in pt and the It band is the major problem. My pt massages it every monday, wed and frid for about 15 min---to try to lengthen the muscles that attatch to it and to help the fibers of the it band loosen a little.

In the meantime, I am working really hard strengthening the quads, hammies and gluetes, which are weak from my knees and bow legs.

It is a lot of work!!! I am in the gym almost every day for at least an hour---two hours on pt days since I add the massage and table exercises and stretching to the mix.

I am hoping that this is the last time that I have to work on this problem---and am beginning to see my quad fire properly again. It is hard though--and painful!!! Kelly

That was interesting, Kelly. Thanks for the input.
