Hey smarties, I decided to get my own thread started to let you know the status of my revisions. As my signature shows I had a bi lat knee replacement Oct.2009. I knew nobody personally that had their knees replaced, that's why after 6 mos of horrific pain I turned to the internet and found this wonderful forum. My OS said everything was fine x-rays were showing everything in place. But my pain continued as the months went by.
Not knowing what to do I began my quest to get other opinions from revision specialists. I interviewed 3 and a 4th said he would not take my case. All OS's said that my knees were cementless knees and none of them would ever do cementless due to failure rate, and all suggested a redo.
As I made the decision which OS to use I got on his surgery schedule, even though he said he would not do it until after the year mark.
I had right knee revised Nov. 2010 and this left knee May 2011. This left knee is truly a miracle. I think this is how the original knee replacement should have felt. You smarties who have had success, I can see how it feels now to have a wonderful working knee!! The right revision is better than original TKR but still painful.
A few of you have asked about the symptoms of my failed knees, extreme pain with any weight bearing whatsoever. Knee caps were not sitting correctly on top of the knees, this symptom was not initially present. The knee caps kept drawing laterally more and more as time went on. In fact they looked like they had a lump on top of them because they were so sideways! The original TKR's never felt right. The left hyper extended terribly, and the right had such pain centered right at the top of the knee.
I had no RSD,no infections, no problems other than they were grinding and painful.
I am glad I had them revised. I know a few of you think it would be too horrible to do revisions. After all it is such a painful surgery, but I just had to do something. I know there was always the chance that the revisions might not give me any relief, but I had to try.
Anyway, I am still plugging along with the bonesmart mantra of ice, elevate and pain meds on schedule. Who knows if and when the right revision will prove as successful as I would like. But this left knee...I love it!
