Hi there I have had both knee caps removed due to severe chondromalacia patella. I was told before surgery over 4 years ago that if there were any future problems I could have TKR. I recently spoke with a new consultant as the consultant that done all previous has since retired. Who has told me that there is no way that I could have TKR as it would make things worse.

I am now experiencing severe groin pain and tightening of hamstring and not 100% sure if they are related.

Any information would be grately appreciated as I am only 35 and would love to be able to do sports with my kids again.

Rubbish! Who is this surgeon - which hospital? I'll find you someone who'll get you done.

Wow seriously !!!! I was told this by a Mr Nutton Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Head Ortho. I feel like I have been banging my head against a wall trying to find some answers. Thought I was looking at a life of pain & meds (not good).

Any information would be FANTASTIC !!!!

Welcome scarru, I am in the US and a friend of mine took 8 bullets in Vietnam had his TKR last July. The Veteran's hospital did a total knee replacement on one of his knees and he had no patella either as it had been shot away. There was lots of scar tissue as well. He is now doing great and walking much better in a lot less pain!

Hi Scarru, Nice to meet you, I hope this all works out for you! This Site will give
you the best Advice/Information on the Internet, Best Wishes!!

On one knee my doctor had removed 1/3rd of the patella for the same reason you had yours removed. I had BTKR with no problem as the OS just adjusted for it.

When I was discussing second patellectomy with consultant I was offered TKR so didnt understand why it could not be done now. AArrrrgggggghhhh its so frustrating

scarru, I have been looking. I was trying to sus out the hospitals in Glasgow but their websites are c - user unfriendly. Could you get down to Sunderland? Or Newcastle?

Not realy I am not driving at the moment and my wife doesnt drive. I may have found a consultant in Glasgow wester Hayles Hospital a Mr Gregori. Waiting on appointment being sent through. Will keep posted :thmb:

Well, thought you should be able to find one more locally. But if he doesn't cut the mustard, there's always the train!
