Defintely NO make up of any kind whatsoever!
Nail polish prevents us from checking circulation. Often we check that, specially on feet, by briefly pressing the nail and observing how quickly the blood returns - we call that the refill time.
Busher, lipstick, etc, prevents us seeing the proper colour of your skin and changes show up more quickly in the face than anywhere else, specially the lips, of course. Besides which, all that goo makes a mess on our equipment!
Mascara can crumble and fragments might get into your eye and cause corneal erosions. Eyeliner and shadow prevents the colour of your skin showing.
Most every OR I've worked in has bottles of acetone in their cupboard to removed any nail varnish and moisties to removed make up! In other words, we like our patients to present themselve as clean and clear as nature intended! Oh, and cut and file your nails beforehand - many's the time I got my arm scratch by even only slightly long toenails whilst seeing to a patient. Uh!
Nightdress is easier as pjs will make your knee hot and be constraining as well. And to begin with, you'll have heaps of wool and crepe on your leg. Doubt you'll want anything more on your leg anway. And you'll be required to get into proper day wear from day one. Before that, with drip, PCA and (maybe) a catheter, you'll be better off in an op gown, believe me!
