I am a 48 yo male who has been very active since childhood. I am at the point where I am about to have a R TKR. I tore the medial meniscus 20 yr ago and then tore the ACL shortly thereafter. Never had reconstruction done on the ACL. Now walk with an obvious limp and require daily NSAIDS which may or may not help with the pain. The affected leg is also beginning to atrophy.
The surgeon I am seeing uses the Stryker Triathlon Implant. After doing research on Medline it appears there is no clear cut best implant. Does anyone have comments about the Triathlon implant. The surgery is planned for a PCL sacraficing approach. My doc feels they can just cause problems down the road if calcified or injured.
I am looking to remain active. I am an admitted skiing addict. I have skiied for 30+ years, ski at an instructor level and do not want to give this up.
I hear varying recommendations as far as skiing is comncerned.
Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

Hey, npbob. Choices, choices! Tough isn't it?

Apart from knowing that the rotating platform was designed with skiers in mind, I would say that most joint replacements today, cruciate sacrificing or not, have enough rotation in them to accommodate most sports but you should be guided by your surgeon.

I know that Stateside, patients are required to make their own choices of implant but, as I have said before on here many times, I would sooner make sure that the surgeon was one with plenty of experience in the use of his chosen implant, had a low infection rate and an good level of acceptable outcomes. I have detailed these elsewhere so you'll pardon me if I don't do that again. I will just encourage you to read around the threads in this forum to find where else I listed that information!!

All the best in your quest.
