Howdy All,
After 3 postponements, I had my RTKR on 3-10-09 at 1:10 p.m. and doing amazingly well.Well I'm on my 4th day out and feels like my 30th, I am doing so good, I probably didn't need to come to the aftercare at all. The Occupational Therapist saw me go to the bathroom and get in and out of my clothes by myself and said I amazed him, that I could be doing so well on my third day and should only be in this skilled nursing facility a few days, compared to a couple months for most TKR's. The therapists are off for the weekend, so can't start my therapy till Monday, except for the CPM machine that I have all ready up to 75%.

This place was deceptive in its appearance, as I am the youngest here, and share a room with a 80+ old woman that snores day and night and needs a bedpan every other hour, so the room smells bad. They don't answer there calls or give the meds on time either, so I could be better off at home. I have asked for a room change and said I could get that tomorrow with a 69 yr old woman, who is pretty spunky.

I was pleasantly surprised in the other hospital to get a call from my daughter Desiree in Costa Rica, that really made me happy. She couldn't get the SKYPE program to work and must have paid a pretty penny to call me on a weekday. A couple girls from my church came in to pray and visit as well as my neighbor friend Ava came in both places and brought me my other clothes to exercise in. My sister Mary Beth called me twice from Kansas too, but just some short e-mails from a few other family members.
A very big asset was having computer access, so here I am reading all my forwarded mail, so time to exit out of here.

So I"m happy to report that waiting paid off for me, and hope your's all goes as well, and your kicking up your heels with me soon.

Love
Katrina

Katrina, I moved your post into a thread of its own in the recovery forum. I think it deserves to be more prominent! I am totally delighted by your progress - please God, I want one like that!! (don't we all!)

You've done wonderfully well and I praise God for it. Tell us some more ....

Hooray, Katrina! What good news. Here's hoping the rest of your recovery is a breeze also. Post now and then and let us know how you're getting along. We LOVE those small but mighty milestones!

Great recup,Kat! Certainly can understand
Why you want to get out of the hospital with that poor
Old roomie! Oye! You show 'em girl!!!!

Keep up the good work Katrina! Just give the therapy all you've got when it starts on Monday and hopefully they will let you out -- and into outpatient therapy 3x a week within a few days. I was lucky because my surgeon prefers to send his patients home and send the therapist 5 days a week for 2 weeks to the home -- rather than put people in rehab facilities. But when you don't have someone at home to help you for the first week or so -- the rehab places are best because you really can't be by yourself all the time until you're steadier on your new knee....
Good luck! It's great to hear you're doing so well!!
