I am doing very well after surgery, much better than I expected. I was one of those who put off having this hip replaced for 4 years. If I had it to do over again, I would not have waited so long. I have not even had any significant pain, only some discomfort--a pleasant surprise for me. My biggest problem was severe nausea from the anesthesia and/or the pain meds. right after surgery. That lasted for part of the first day, but from then on, I felt fine.
I'm very relieved that I had such a positive experience, because I'm not done yet. My body strives for balance, and so I have to get a pair of shiny new hips and then, hopefully, I'll be done for awhile. My surgeon prefers to wait 3 months before tackling the other hip, so you'll be sure to hear from me again.
I strongly encourage anyone who is putting off their surgery not to wait. Part of my fear was that the last surgery I had back in 1973 was a nightmare. My hospital experience back then was more about what's best for the hospital and staff, rather than what's best for the patient. The patient's comfort was definitely not a priority. But my hospital experience this time was the exact opposite in every way.....Hurrah!!! :D So, don't wait.....go for it.
