I was recently scheduled for my second total knee replacement. This time my left knee is getting a joint lift, lol! It will occur in a few weeks on December 2nd. The first thing on my 'Preparations List' was to revisit BoneSmart that was instrumental in getting me through my first RTKR! I look forward to meeting others who I hope to encourage and find laughter with as we plow through the days and weeks leading up to our brand new knee joints that will hopefully be free of pain and with plenty of mobility!

We've GOT this! -Suz

:welome: back to BoneSmart!!

Here is a copy of the pre op reading for a refresher.

New BoneSmart members like you are in various stages of their journey to joint replacement. Making the decision whether or not to have surgery and preparing for surgery can be easier once you have done your research and know what lies ahead. Here are some tools that can help you decide what is best for you.

If you are at the stage where you have joint pain but don't know for sure if you are ready to have surgery, these links may help:

Score Chart: How bad is my arthritic knee?
Choosing a surgeon and a prosthesis
BMI Calculator - What to do if your surgeon says you're too heavy for joint replacement surgery
Longevity of implants and revisions: How long will my new joint last?

If you are at the stage where you are planning to have surgery but are looking for information so you can be better prepared for what is to come, take a look at these links:

Recovery Aids: A comprehensive list for hospital and home
Recliner Chairs: Things you need to know if buying one for your recovery
Pre-Op Interviews: What's involved?

Regardless of where you are in the process, the website and app My Knee Guide can help you stay organized and informed. The free service keeps all the information pertaining to your surgery and recovery in one place on your smartphone. It is intended to be a personal support tool for the entire process.

And if you want to picture what your life might be like with a replaced knee, take a look at the posts and threads from other BoneSmarties provided in this link:

Our Nurse Director Josephine.. and my HERO!!

In your 84,000+ messages posted here you might not remember how you delivered me from 'pain he*l' after my first TKR, haha! But I do! I remember the support you gave me vividly and intend to follow the same in my upcoming TKR adventure!

I hope so much your recovery is coming along to your standard! = )

Well- it's the eve of my LTKR and I'm trying so much to stay positive in my thoughts! The apprehension is the worst! I want to jump on in, face the pain and get it behind me already! I've been reading through a lot of posts and articles recently and will probably continue to do so throughout the evening until I fall asleep. IF I fall asleep! Thank You for all of your support and especially to the Bonesmart Staff for running such an efficient & supportive forum! It only took a couple of days in a facebook TKR group page for me to realize this is the only place to be if you are facing a joint replacement! I couldn't believe how those in the FB group were so negative. Of course they are with the aggressive PT, swelling & pain they are experiencing. I did encourage a few to come to this forum for the 'best' way to approach recovery. I sure hope they will. Anyway, enough of that. I'll see you on the other side! I'm attacing a picture I took of my RTKR back in 2016. I was alive and well when that picture was taken and spending most of my time here on Bonesmart in the forums with TKR survivors! This picture gives me hope that I will successfully survive this one too!

Surgery went without a hitch. I’m in my room now, with ice and my first 10mg Hydrocodone. My leg is waking up and now the recovery begins! For now the mental- mind over matter, right?! Ice feels good! Thanks everyone for your thoughts & prayers! We’ve got this, I hope!
