I have had many procedures throughout my life (see sig) but I have never let it get me down. I returned to competitive powerlifting after all of my procedures. On October 28th (2 weeks ago today) I had my THA. I am very concerned that my life is going to change in a very dramatic way. I do understand things will change, I can deal with that. I guess I am looking for support from people who know what it's like to have this done. I am getting all kinds of jokes from people telling me I am too young to have these problems. It's almost like people are writing me off because I will no longer be able to participate in the activities I used to. I have never really needed support from people, but I believe I may need some help this time, I'm feeling a little down at the moment. Sorry its so long...thanks for your time.

Welcome and this is not long at all.
YOu have been through too much, but this will be the best. New hips are awesome.
REad Sugaplum's thread on her 2 months later, she is young as well.

The only thing i was told not to do is run. Unfortunately i was an obsessed runner. I have done a little and it feels great. I love my doc so i will not continue.
I did start swimming at around 4 weeks and quickly got up to a mile each time and i went about 5 days per week.
By 3 months i was back to everything. So you will be ok, but will always hear that you are too young for this. I hear it and am 52!

I have been passionate about keeping myself in some sort of shape for many years. Weightlifting has been a part of my life for the better part of 10 years, and I really hate being forced to quit. I have always pushed my body and surprised all of my doctors with my achievements in the gym, hopefully I wont have to give up all of it.

Welcome to BoneSmart, Igowens2....so glad you decided to join our forum. We have many, many caring folks all over the world who are available to support and uplift you as you go through the surgery and recovery process. Our members are all ages...some in their 20's need and have hip replacements and go right on with their active lives.

Powerlifting may present some unusual challenges as you recover and you'll need to talk about what may be possible with your surgeon. Maybe you can modify some of the things you do so you don't put strain on the new joint.

Post any time....we'll be here when you need us.

We've also had a lot of 20 yr olds who had THRs so don't feel alone because of that. It's not that uncommon but you just don't meet people out in the street! That's the wonder of the net, puts you in touch with people who are just like you!
