Good Morning everyone,
I know we all have had back problems at one time or another. This time around I have been pretty lucky, my back hasn't bothered me until tonight.
Early evening it just started aching and throbbing, down my leg, you know what I mean. I walked, took pain meds 1 1/2 hours later no relief, laid on bed, nothing got up and walked, laid on my comfy sofa, no luck there, then I grabbed my dog leash (the thing they give you to lift your leg) or you could use a sheet or belt or whatever and I just lifted my leg up (knee straight) whole way up about 10 times, rest a few seconds and did that about 3 times or so and within 5 minutes my back pain left. I know it was from walking a lot today, I went up and down my basement steps several times, etc. New leg being straightened the whole nine yards, but I had forgotten about simple leg lifts that high. I have been doing them but not the whole way up.
Later on after I was up and about down the steps again, I felt it starting to return, I laid on the sofa, grabbed my leash thing and did it again and gone.
You may all already know this and do it, but just in case someone is out there crying with back pain I thought I would share.
Hope it helps someone else.

That's a great idea, Kath. I wouldn't have thought of it, but will definitely keep it in mind in case my back pain returns. So far, my new mattress seems to be helping my problem with that. But.....today I got off schedule on my pain pills and took them too close together once. To get back on schedule, I waited 8 hours between doses (normally it's 4-6 hours) and now I'm paying the price. I ended up in that place on Josephine's pain graph that you don't want to be and I think it will take a few doses to get back to normal. Knee pain discomfort has been my issue tonight. Just got to take another dose of pills, though, and I think it will normalize soon. Sigh.....if it's not one thing, it's ANOTHER!!! Next time if this happens, I'll just take an extra dose of meds that one day and let it go......my stubborn martyr gene took over and I thought I could "tough it out." Dumb.....

I am in bondage to my chiropractor! He is my hero - that and the TENS!!

Hey, star - welcome to the forum.

Jo is a chiropractor the same as an osteopath?

Sorry, Sue - I missed this! Must be over a week old!

No, they are not quite the same. And osteopath is more like a physiotherapist, using massage and exercise and tools like ultrasound or microwave and traction.

A chiroprator uses adjustment manipulation techniques, a way of gently jolting the little joints in the spine back into place. A lot of medical doctors poo-poo this as being akin to other peripheral practices but I don't agree - I am the walking example that it works.

Having said that, some osteopaths and physiotherapists do use chiropractic techniques so there can be a lot of over laps.
